The deadline to cancel AP exam purchases at my school is coming up, and I’m contending with the idea of dropping a few exams. I know Dartmouth doesn’t offer credit for AP’s and only recognizes that you took the courses.
I’m taking 5 AP’s this year (Chem, Econ, PoliSci, Literature, Art History, and Statistics). I’m an Econ major, so I don’t really see any point in me taking anything other than Econ and Statistics. But, I’m planning on taking Art History and Literatire because of my teachers. AP exams are also super expensive this year, and I can get a refund if I choose not to take a test.
The problem is that, in my common app, I put down that I was planning to take all these tests. Will there be any bad repercussions from the school if I choose not to take these tests? My big worry - however paranoid and over-blown as it may seem - is that the school will think that I’m slacking off in second semester and choose to suspend or withdrawn my application. Thanks so much for your help!
Doesn’t make a difference in the long run. Avoid C’s, D’s, and F’s
And don’t get arrested. And don’t have been found to lie on your application. Your offer will not be rescinded for not taking an AP exam.
Normally I’d say to let the college know that you’ve opted not to take the exam(s), but in this case, I would not even bother. Your Common App went to many colleges. Since Dartmouth gives no AP credit, they can hardly complain if you don’t take the exams. If they felt strongly about it, they should give you the $92 per exam.
