I'm seriously not ready for the AP exams, so I don't feel confident at all in the possibility of scoring a 5 in anything. According to what most people say, it sounds like AP credit doesn't really do much anyway.

So, if I were to matriculate with absolutely no AP credit, would it matter in the slightest? If not, then I'm not going to take AP Lit, Calc BC or Bio next week then. If it does matter, then I'll at least attempt to take them.

Has anyone been really grateful for having used AP credit?

The AP credits I had really helped me, allowing me to hypothetically take 5 2-course terms (registrar caps at 3, but you can petition). This probably makes me sound like a slacker, but my intention is to use these terms to really focus on what I want to study - my current 2-course term is my most difficult yet enjoyable term so far, in terms of academics. I think AP credits are a great thing if you have them.

That being said, there are plenty of people who are without credits, or prefer to hold on to them to graduate early, or just want to take 3 courses...you'll be fine no matter what.

If you want to be strategic, find out what credit you'd get and choose exams from there. Off the top of my head, you can't get credit for AP Lit, and Calc BC will place you into a higher-level math course (which you may not want). You get an "unspecified" credit (ie. toward your graduation) from bio.

also depends what you want to do. Getting a science/math prereqs out of the way via APs can be really helpful, also any languages ... if I hadn't, I probably would not be able to have my double major, since i would need to have taken up to 5-6 extra classes as prereqs.

based on what nai said, I should just take bio then -one of my stronger subjects.

I'll probably take the placement exam to place out of languages, but I don't want to place into a higher math class because I hate math, and bio can't place me out of any prereqs =/

just wondering... which requirements do you need to place out of to get a double major in a science subject. is it possible to double major if you dont place out of all the requirements or just want to take a few of them again.

some of my teachers also said not to use AP credits to place out of the requirements for courses for your major, because the college might stress different things in the introductory course which are different from the AP course. can anyone speak to this?

i mean you can definitely double major in the sciences w/o any AP credits, it will just be much harder, and you'll be taking multiple lab classes pretty much every term your freshman year, which might not be the most fun way to enter Dartmouth.

While it's true that the College might stress different things than your AP class, truthfully most of the intro classes are taught by different profs every year who stress different things, even between sections during the same term. Basically if you have some grasp of the material whatsoever you should be fine to move on to the next class, or should be able to read up on what you need to in a couple days.
