Choosing not to use AP credit

Hi,

I know this is the last year that Dartmouth will accept AP credits.

I recently took AP calculus BC exam, and was wondering about a few things.

If I happen to get a 4 and am able to receive the credit for Math 3 and Math 8, could I choose not to received the credits and retake the courses?

Planning to major in one of the sciences, I do not think I have solid base for the math, and I do not want to move into math 11 that could be over my head.

Can anyone share his or her knowledge on this?

Thank you!

From what I heard/read, Dartmouth encourages all students to take their placement exams regardless of already having placed out of a class. I think you ought to get there, take a placement exam or two, and see how you really are.

Even if you have the qualifying AP scores, I would think your Dartmouth academic adviser would allow (probably even encourage) you to take Math 3 instead of Math 11 if your placement exam is low enough.

At worst, you can just cancel your Calc BC exam score.
