Ok, before you ask, I've read the other threads about AP Credits and Duke. I just want some clarification here.

Does Trinity really only allow 2 AP credits towards graduation?? So, 32 instead of 34? Kinda makes me wish that I had applied for Pratt.

So, will my other 10+ AP scores be worthless, then? Or can they still be used towards placement out of introductory courses?

It's tough knowing that my scores could be all for naught! (I am Trinity btw).

Hmm...another thing I was thinking about was the accelerated graduation program, or whatever you call it. This way, I can graduate in about 3 course years and maybe also take a semester/year abroad. Do you think this is advisable?

From what i understand tadd, it is 2 credits only but u can use others for placement and stuff which really isnt anything major.

as for your last question, i am also very interested in that. I know u can use 6 ap credits instead of 2 if u graduate in 3 years. Please someone comment on whether it is advisable!

It's advisable if you want to graduate in 3 years to save money or what have you....it's not advisable if you don't want to leave Duke early (which I think is the VAST majority of people). But it's certainly doable depending on your major/interests/AP credits. Also, just because Pratt gives you unlimited APs doesn't mean it helps much since Pratt has many more required courses that nobody can place out of from APs. Note that all AP scores of 4 and 5 will be noted on your transcript, but only two can count toward requirements. The rest can be used to place out of classes.

When you guys say "requirements", could also meet the T-REQ requirements?

Say I get a 5 in AP American Government and I get credit for POLISCI 90A. Do I met one of the SS requirements? I can't even find "POLISCI 90A" as a class... so what the heck? AP Credit = made up classes, perhaps?

The entire Duke website is so darn ambiguous about this issue. Although I've been told no by one of the Trinity College Reps, I still want to make sure.

This is my personal understanding of the Duke AP credit policy, acknowledging that the policy is kind of "out there"...

nmehta4 is right in that you can only use 2 credits toward graduation and the rest for upper-level placement. I thought that if you wanted to graduate early (note: you actually need to fill out some form to do this) and have the departmental requirements + T-REQ requirements fulfilled, you can use the rest in lieu of taking random other classes. For Pratt people (like me), it might seem like the AP credit policy works to your advantage, but the fact that no AP class will take the place of, let you place into out of sequence, or in anyway affect your engineering courses really means you won't be graduating early. I mean, you could do it and prove me wrong... and be smarter than I am, but not really because Duke is an awesome place that no one really wants to leave, except for financial reasons...

For RevDem, Duke uses POLISCI 90A and other classes like it (Bio 19, English 20, Econ 1...) as placeholders. They can be used to meet "requirements" because they fulfilled my English (actually Literature) and SS, but I don't believe they can take the place of T-REQ "modes of inquiries."

If you guys are thinking that T-REQs are beginning to sound terrible, its because it is. I thank God every registration period that I'm in Pratt because while our requirements are more difficult, I don't have to pick a class that fills 3 types of requirements.
