Son has 47 AP credits based on UNC website. Is there a limit to how many they will accept?
Wow that is a lot of credits. Look on the AP transfer website to see if they accept his score.
Don’t believe there are any limits. Assuming you looked online and checked his score against the UNC list to come up with your number. May want to see if there is a minimum number of UNC classes he has to take though. He will likely have some issues signing up for classes since as a first year, he will have last priority but will be taking courses second years and above will have first access to. Also, still may have to take a lot of the basic liberal arts requirements classes depending on the categories he tested out of. For example if most are science, they still won’t fulfill the philosophy, music, etc. he has to take. Or for example, many students take just Micro Econ in high school and get AP Credit, but you have to have both Micro and Macro to get out of ECON 101. Fulfilling requirements at UNC is like putting a puzzle together. My D came in with 35 credits and is having issues getting some classes now given her status as a first year. Again, its a puzzle and she has to have a double major just to fill in classes.
Look up the course requirements for his intended major as a starting point, then cross check with college board on how his credits transfer. If your child is looking at Engineering or Medical School, some of the Science APs like Physics and Chem May not be enough, at least, that’s what we were told at UVA. My son is looking at BME, and will graduate with 13 APs, has 7 5s and a 4 so far, and is still only counting under 40 hours- that’s all his requirements will allow, if he goes ahead with BME. Your interaction with the counselor during Orientation will hopefully shed more light!
