Hi! I was wondering if anyone knew anything about getting class credits from AP tests. Since the results for those exams don't come until mid/late July, how do you know what classes to sign up for/ what classes you no longer have to take? (during orientation that is, since orientations tend to be earlier on in the summer) And would they let you select other classes on the assumption that you will receive credits?

Hi, Stephanie. The advisors you meet with at orientation know that people won’t have all of their AP scores; that’s fine. [Side note: Those advisors didn’t seem to be particularly helpful. Realize that your schedule is your responsibility, and work on it beforehand. My mom and I spent one day on it a couple weeks before orientation and that effort got me a far better schedule than anyone else in my dorm my freshman year.] You should, however, know your AP scores from years past and have a general idea of how you did this time. Here is a link to IU’s AP credit chart: [Advanced Placement Exams: Admission Standards: Future Freshmen: How to Apply: Office of Admissions: Indiana University Bloomington](<a href=“Freshman Applicants: How to Apply: Office of Admissions: Indiana University Bloomington”>Freshman Applicants: How to Apply: Office of Admissions: Indiana University Bloomington) You’ll want to keep a list of what requirements you have already satisfied with these.
Also, you do not have to take only courses that satisfy basic requirements your freshman year. That means that if you think you may get AP credit for, say, AP Lit, then you shouldn’t sign up for the equivalent IU Lit class your first semester. Instead, wait to see your scores and then decide whether you will still need to take it.
