Hey all, I am planning on applying to the AP/EA program.
Has anyone gone through this program? Is so, did any of you go for mobile robots or for the course in electrical engineering. Also, what are your chances of actually getting into Carnegie after successful completion of their AP/EA program?
Thank you, I appreciate it

I went, I took CS and Chem. I applied ED and got rejected by SCS.

mmeyers: what were ur stats when u applied to cmu scs?

i applied to scs as my first choice and i realllllyy hope it works out for me.

thanks much!

my friend did the robot course and he spent a LOT of time in his lab programming and testing. my three/four other friends took intro to ECE and worked their butts off for that course. i think those two are some of the hardest courses at CMU AP/EA.
successful completion of AP/EA (getting As in the courses, i'd assume) will add a lot to your file. associate dean of admissions i talked to on campus said that admissions can know us much more on a personal level and can just go to the department and talk to our lecturers if they really need to know about us.
i think if you already have a good shot at CMU (2200+ SATs, good SAT IIs, good academics with AP courses, diverse/involved ECs, etc.) AP/EA is the closest you can get to a guaranteed admission. people who do AP/EA get the chance to apply early action to CMU. the one who took robotics+ECE got into SCS; another into CIT; and i into Tepper+MCS.

tongchen1226: would you say that that only the free diversity ap/ea program will give you a leg up during admissions, or will even the $6000 program help acceptance chances?

both. none of my diversity friends didnt even apply to cmu (i did, though). :P
