AP English and AP Comparative Gov't in Pencil?

Am I allowed to right the essays for AP English and the free responses for AP Comparative gov't both in pencil? Apparently I had a friend who used pencil for all of his AP exams last year, though AP stated to use pens for written parts, my friend got straight 5s anyways...

I think that we are obligated to write in pen.

Anyone else?

Are all FRQ’s required to be written in pen or just English and Gov?

Because last year, I’m pretty sure they said we were supposed to write the APUSH FRQ in pen but I wasn’t paying attention and wrote it in pencil. I got scared about that but I ended up getting a 5. I think I did the same thing for AP Euro as well (also got a 5)

yeah i wrote my bio in pencil and i hope they still read it.

The reason they mandate that all students write in pen is because the FRQ’s are actually scanned into a computer for grading. This means that light pencil marks can fade and possibly not show up on the scan. If you write dark enough in pencil, there really is no difference between a pen.

I made the same mistake last year on AP Environmental and still got a 5. I wouldn’t worry about it but at the same time I plan on writing in pen for my exams this year in order to avoid any issue with not being able to read my work.
