AP English credit transfer question

Regarding AP Credit for English, the table shows the following with an asterik:

English Lang./Composition* ENGW1111 First-Year Writing 4SH
English Lit./Composition* ENGW1111 First-Year Writing 4SH

  • A student taking both English exams will earn 1 course of ENGW1111 worth 8 SH. The additional 4 SH are not to be applied to requirements other than First-year Writing

I tried reading this many times, and i don’t understand exactly what they are saying. So what is the difference if I take only one of those exams (and receive 4 or 5), and if I take BOTH (and get 4 or 5 on BOTH).

Is there any benefit to taking both exams? How??

You get more credit, but the credit can’t be applied to any requirements and would only count as a general elective type to reduce needed credit to graduate.

The second English course counts as a general elective, but does not fulfill any other General Education Requirement (specifically, it does not fulfill the second English course requirement).

Also, NEU only accepts AP credit if the student scores a 4 or 5 on their AP exam.
