I understand that Rice gives non-distribution credit for AP English (Lang and/or Lit) so I wonder if there is any advantage to taking those tests and submitting the scores. It appears that any benefit would be minimal, but perhaps I am missing something. Any comments from current students/parents would be appreciated.

well, it depends on what you want to major in. If you choose a small major with a small number of required courses, this can help take your total credits to 120. leaving for a fun senior year?

Beyond that, Id wait for someone who has a better answer. Im not very well versed in AP stuff

My friend attends Rice right now under Rice/Baylor.

She didn’t take the AP English exam during her senior year.

She told me she regretted it because now, she has to take a writing-intensive English class to fulfill her med school prereqs (that AP English could’ve satisfied).

And though it may not help now, or someone might not plan to be a doctor, I think it’s better to have the credits available. I mean, seniors already invested the time in the AP class and ~$80 doesn’t seem like much compared to the future time and money what might/will have to be invested again in a college class.

… but this really depends on the intended major and career goal~
