After looking over prospective degree plans, it seems as though there are no definite "core classes" one must take to obtain a degree. As I understand, with distribution requirements, the "core classes" come with completing 12 hours of credit in each of the three distribution groups. I'm torn between taking one of the awesome classes listed under the D1 group and taking a dual credit English class, which would transfer to Rice, at my high school. Are there any thoughts on this from current/former Rice students? Would it be better to take on the extra work load this year to get the hours out of the way, or would taking a more interesting class at Rice be better? Thanks!

Don’t worry about it.

If you want to take the English class, take it. If you don’t, then don’t. Is this an AP course? If so, it is worth noting that AP English does not count towards distribution.

There is plenty of time at Rice to take awesome classes. Don’t sweat it right now.

The class itself is a dual credit course, which means it counts for highschool credit but is actually through the local communtiy college. Thanks for the advice though, this is exactly what i was looking for.

You can always take MORE classes above and beyond the 12 hours. Even if you complete your distribution, you can take a fun class you enjoy.

I would say take the class now. Then you have the flexibility later to either take another distribution class, a random fun class or nothing at all and do something else.

Antarius, I think I’m leaning that direction now. Thanks for the advice!

Cool. Good luck!
