AP English Lang: Pen or Pencil?

Am I supposed to use a pen for my essays?
Please say yes...

Yes. You need a pencil for the MC part and a blue or black pen for the essay part. Bring plenty of both.

Thanks for answering so quickly!

Can you use mechanical pencils on the MC?

I believe it's much better to use a black pen. Something about the way they scan the essays into the computer. I don't know - I'm pretty paranoid. I'm also taking about 4 of my favorite pens with me because I can't work well with any other kinds of ink.

oleanders: np

Rippon: yea... its a #2 pencil and most mechanical pencils are #2.. just bring a reg one just in case....

Ok, I am not too worried, last year they had a crap load of pens and pencils there.

They said that they will have some this year, but to bring your own. So I guess I can always get a lender pencil. I thought those old wood pencils were out of date!

haha yea i personally dont like using old wood pencils either.... handwriting isnt as great and it makes my fingers hurt...

im freaking out im sooo scared for this exam

Yes, If I get lucky I will get a 4. If I get unlucky... I will get a 1, lol.

if i dont make stupid mistakes, 5
If i do make stupid mistakes... 3 or 4 >.<

I wanted to use my favorite pen until I found out you can't use your own pencil! Jeez they think everyone is a cheater.

What? You can bring your own pens and pencils, avet123...What do you mean?

I'm just going to correct something earlier said:

The essays for AP English Lang are NOT scanned into a computer.

I made a specific point of asking my English teacher, who is an AP Grader. She told me that they actually got the whole booklet. So even if you totally accidently put the essays out of order, they will find the right one before they give you a 0.

Also... I asked her because scanning totally destroys my handwriting, as exemplified by the SAT and ACT. :(

Wait so ishmaelstrom, does that mean a grader will read all three of your essays?

btw. no mechanical pencils allowed according to my teacher. Back to the good ol' wood pencils. (After all, old is gold. Isn't it?)

No; each essay has a "table" of graders. For example, Question 1 would have a table. There are a variety of graders at that table who are trained to grade the essay consistently and also a "table leader" who is in charge of the table. One person at the table thoroughly reads an essay, gives it a score, and then does the next one. I'd assume they pass the books from table to table, or something like that...
