Well, I'm wondering if schools use any textbooks for this course? If so, which one? What books and authors are beneficial to read in order to do well on the AP test? Also, which test prep books are good for preparing for the exam?

My class didn't use any special textbooks, just the standard literature book that all junior english classes at the school use. For the test, you don't need to know the works of any specific authors, because passages are given to you for analysis.

we didnt use a textbook, at the end of the year like mid/late april before the essay we reviewed the terms in a review book (REA), it was a little helpful, but at the end of the day the question is whether you are a good writer or not, thats what is going to get you the 5

Mostly it's a test of what you know already, your intrinsic ability. It helps to be supplemented with the Cliffs AP book (easily the best for the Language test, no matter what anyone else says).

1 is AP English Language and Composition
The AP English Language and Composition course is designed to help students become skilled readers of prose written in a variety of periods, disciplines, and rhetorical contexts and to become skilled writers who can compose for a variety of purposes.

other 1 is AP English Literature and Composition
The AP English Literature and Composition course is designed to engage students in the careful reading and critical analysis of imaginative literature

please answer my question :)
"are there any specific grammar books that are useful for the course?"

The exam doesn't test grammar in a straightforward way...if you have trouble using correct grammar when you write, then review anything that will be helpful to you.

Our class didn't do any test-specific prep at all. We had no textbook. I got a 5.

At my school, we don't get any textbooks for our APLAC classes, not even a general Lit book.
Our whole year was pretty much spent going over rhetorical strategies haha
