ap english lit question...

Okay I am an international student so my background would seem wack to you guys. Anyway, I did the O' Level English Lit. exam in 2006 (the equal to pre-AP english) and did O' Level English Language in 2007 (equal to English 3 or so).
I want to take AP English Lit. in my senior year (I'm a junior now). Having not done english lit. in two years before starting AP English Lit, would I struggle with the course? Could I use the summer to un-rust myself?

Thanks in advance for the replies!

Well, your English writing seems perfectly fluent; however, the English Literature exam is even really difficult for us native speakers of the language.

The English on the Literature exam is extremely complex and sometimes archaic. Expect a ton of poetry and other complex constructs of language.

Personally, I feel more comfortable taking the German Language exam compared to the English Language/Literature exam even though English is my first language. That is just my anecdotal persuasion, however.

I forgot to mention that English is my first language. I would like to do well on the AP exam but getting an A in the class is more important to me.

Oh, ok! I just assumed that English is not your first language since you said you are an international student.

Some would argue that a higher AP score is better than an "A" in the course considering that AP scores are not subject to the same weak factors that high school grades are (e.g.: inflation.)

I have an "A" in my AP English Language and Composition course; however, I will not attribute that "A" to a 5 on the AP exam. I expect a 3, and if I am lucky, a 4. That AP exam is just brutal.

The schools I am looking at, however, will use SAT Reading scores as placement in addition to, or as a substitute, to AP scores.

UNC, with a 670+ CR SAT, will exempt you out of ENG 101, I believe. AP English Composition, with a 4 or 5, tends to exempt and give credit for ENG 101.

My school doesn't offer AP Language, only AP lit. The minimum grade I want is a 3. I just wanna know if not doing English Lit. for 2 years prior to starting AP lit would I have alot of problems?

What do you mean by "not doing English Literature for two years prior to starting AP Lit?"

Don't you read? ;-)

Well, my last english lit class would have been 2 years before i start AP Lit...

I wouldn't worry about that, honestly.

Are you an avid reader? That is the most important question in regards to success on the AP English Literature exam. This applies to AP English Composition, SAT Critical Reading/Writing, et cetera.

You don't necessarily need classes; however, they help you understand complex novels better and you get to exchange with others ideas and interpretations on various works of literature.

No, I'm not an avid reader, sadly... CR score: 650 WR: 780. I guess I would just have to work harder in that class than normal. (since I'm a science/math guy)

Well, with a 650 CR and 780 WR, I would say that you are poised for atleast a high 3 on the AP Lit exam. if not a 4. A 5 may be out of reach, considering your CR, however.
