Toot = hoot

That's what I though too, but at that time (in the mid 1500s) none of the words would have rhymed.

Few would have been /feu/, while "toot" would have been /tot/ or /tut/. "Cue" would have been pronounced /ky/. All have different vowels or diphthongs, though they all have rounded characteristics.

I want to see how that question turns out.

Do we actually get the answers of the individual questions?? 0.0

I picked scowl cause it rhymed with owl LOL yeah it'll be wrong...

There's no point worrying about the curve though, I mean, collegeconfidential doesn't exactly represent "average people". Just look at people's stats here; a lot of people are geniuses.

Hahahah berkshire I did the same thing!! Didn't even consider the "cue" part of "cue-owl" Hahah

hahahah, i was so confused when i read that question.

all that went through my head was "are you seriously asking me which ones rhyme"

What does rhyme mean?

OH MY GOD
i did SO horribly on the third essay!
the first 2 were easy, but the last one MESSED ME UP!!!
we did not talk about that AT ALL in AP eng!
so i ended up writing about Miranda, in the Tempest -_-

are we even allowd to be discussing MCQ?? cause i saw some ppl doing it here!?!?!

I<3Pi I see you're from Vancouver too! What school? Interestingly enough, I was the only person in my school who did this exam...(most "academic people" in my school do IB, not AP...although my school offers both)

My guess is that I got around 10 wrong on the Multiple choice....I'll have 3/4/5 depending on the scale.

Anyone here read Great gatsby, recently?

I think i may have over-analyzed that cue question as well. were they seriously asking us to rhyme on an AP test?? I went with the few answer though.

I found the MC pretty easy. I was really nervous, since my english teacher had been giving us such hard practice tests. I usually only missed one or two out of all of them in AP Lang, and didn't understand why I was doing so much worse. now I do!

As for the essays--I think i actually kicked the 2nd one's ass. I used "Crime and Punishment" for the third, Sonya and Raskolnikov. I knew there were so many other books I could have used, but didn't remember enough in the details to write a good essay.

I also used a Goldilocks and the 3 Bears-type analogy. Third porridge being just right because the first two were so terrible, and the first two seeming all the more terrible bc the second was just right. Sonya was "just right" and Raskolnikov "too cold." Depending on what mood the reader I get is in, I think I'll either score really well, or they'll just be like "um what the f*** is she talking about"

The question about the owl was WHAT THE PERSON SAYS to refer to an OWL and rhymes with what they call an OWL by. It was clearly what it stated in the question, so the answer was C.) Scwol or w.e. (thx to berkshire for the word)...It rhymed with Owl.

Oh really? That's awesome! That means I got it right...btw I believe the word is "scowl".

no no... the ca11 of the whatever nightime bird it was... i'm not saying anything...

MC - Harder than I expected, but still easier than the practice ones we did from a stupid and godforsaken booklet. The 2nd passage was a real pain in the butt, the odd numbered passsages were really nice, with the exception of the oddball question that's totally out there and I just say, "What?!?!" 4th one was decent - too much painting and stuff on these passages!

Prompt One - Did last, I hate poetry, but I think I did pretty well, except I just named-dropped Shakespearean and Petrarchan sonnet without noting much significance (I tried, but it was mostly BS) - the essay was a good 3 pages though. Hopefully, a 6 or 7 or 8.

Prompt Two - ***? Talked mainly about intimidation and discomfort with unfamiliar surroundings - a lot of diction in there I thought.

Prompt Three - Did that first, was going to do Hamlet, but couldn't remember much to save my life, so I did Life of Pi... except Richard Parker isn't that minor or a character... still he's not the MAIN protagonist. Hopefully, I don't get a reader that's out to get people who don't foil a minor character.

Hopefully, I got the score I wanted, but I definitely don't know that for sure. Good luck to everyone!

Yep. Most of my friends agreed that it was Scowl (well the smart ones, at least). The question REALLY stumped us though..It took me a good few minutes to realize what the question was asking.

i really disliked this test for some reason. I took the AP English Language last yer and found it many times easier adn I recieved a 4 on that. BUt I could just be pessimistic because the AP US gov't test was sooo easy the other day, however instead of posting i should be studying for my AP euro test tomorrow!

Yeah, the multiple choice question about the owl's noise and what it rhymes with, I either didn't answer it, but if I did I put "toot", I thought that was a completely irrelevant question that had absolutely nothing to do with the meaning of the poem.

Anyways, on to my real question. I noticed somebody's friend used Madam Reisz and Edna from The Awakening for question 3, so did I. When looking back on the prompt, I noticed that it mentioned a minor character as a foil, but also mentioned that characters are compared to the main character. Would my essay be valid for the question? I basically discussed how Reisz was the complete opposite of Edna at the beginning of the novel, and how Edna slowly became her throughout the novel, as Reisz helped her realize the true freedom that she could possess.

Really? Man, I'd really like to know the answers to these tests..do they ever release it?

I didn't even notice toot and hoot! There must have been a reason for the word hyphenated on... I mean, it's an AP test. They don't ask a question as simple as "What rhymes with dog?"

And as for the curve, my teacher was telling us that a lot of schools that don't really support AP programs are forcing their students to take the test, this year in particular (she told us of a few schools, can't remember though). As messed up as that seems, it still lowers the curve, for the rest of us.
