Hi. I have just completed my junior year and my English class was AP/IB World Literature. Next year, I am planning to take AP Shakespeare and Modern Drama. Would these two classes together effectively prepare me for the AP English Literature exam in May of my senior year? Also, what are the major differences between the AP English Literature exam and AP English Language exam? Thanks.

AP Lit is fiction and poetry, AP Lang is more nonfiction and prose. The lit essays require you to know literary devices and analyze poetry plus you have to read books off a recommended list since the third essay requires you to use a book you know. The lang exam essays consist of a synthesis essay which involves using different sources to come up with an argument (like a DBQ), analyzing an author’s rhetorical strategies, and lastly a persuasive essay. I would look on the College Board website for more info.

^ This thread is from 2010. OP was a senior when this year’s HS graduating class were freshmen! With that being said, yes, you are correct.
