What is the difference between AP English language and AP English literature? Do most people take both of them in one year? I'm a junior in an AP English class, but people in my school always wait until finishing the senior AP English class to take the exam. I don't know if they take both or not. Should I take one this year and one upon completion of my 2nd AP English class? If so, which is harder? I tried reading the AP Central explanations but couldn't understand the difference well...so help me. What does each cover?

Language is more literary devices and rhetorical strategies focused.

Literature is more thematic analysis.

that is a very basic difference, i don't feel like going more in depth right now.

In Literature you have to analyze poetry as well, so you'd have to study poetic devices in addition to literary.
