HEy Im a freshman taking APES and i have no idea how to prepare for it, cuz i barely have a bio background, is it easy? is it hard?
Why are you taking it? That’s such a waste
Will you be a freshman and you’ll be taken APES as your first Ap course?
Remember that you’ll have to take biology, chemistry, and physics too (regular or honors, and/or an AP class).
Anish14: it’s an exellent AP gateway course for freshmen, and absolutely not a waste in that sense.
@MYOS1634 Well yeah, but for how much work is involved it’s not worth it. I would rather skip to Honors Niology or regular biology. It’s a lite AP that isn’t useful like AP Stats
It’s a gateway course, like AP Human Geography, meaning designed to introduce students to the rigor of AP classes. It can, of course, be taken at any point, and loses value the further away from freshman year it is.
I’m a day late and a dollar short here, but this is for all of the underclassmen out there.
Please ignore the people who tell you that APES is a waste. While the class content is easier than other classes, I found it to be very impactful. It’s extremely important (especially in a time where the climate is changing and we’re becoming serious about this Earth stuff) to be conscious of environmental issues and solutions. It makes me so angry and sad when people discredit this class because it is not conducive to what they have been told is a quality education: homework, stress, and top grades. The stuff “top universities” care about. Learn because this is your world and it’s a fascinating place to be. The class will lose none of its value if you take it later. AP training value, maybe, but that is irrelevant to your success as a human being. As a senior to a freshman, in these next 3ish years, please don’t let your schooling get in the way of your education. You’ll be much better off than those of us who didn’t think about that at the start.
Though I may be slightly biased. I took the class with an amazing teacher last year and am now on my way to an environmental science program next year. Top ranked, because I know that’s how you establish credibility around here.
In My School you arent allowed to take until junior year after you have taken Biology and Chemistry. I heard it was fun and not really complicated but thats in my school.
@Anish14 What are you trying to accomplish by telling him apes is a waste? Yes it may be an ap lite, but when were ap lites meaningless? I would gladly take apes and knock about a couple hundred dollars in college over taking honors bio. And also, ap stats is an extremely valuable class as everyone will need it in college. Back the OP’s question:Apes is a really great ap to introduce you into the whole ap world. It will be hard in the sense that you’ve never taken an AP class and you may be taken back my the workload, but in comparison it is not a difficult class granted you have a good teacher and the proper work ethic.
I’m taking it right now because I didn’t want to take AP Physics. It honestly depends on your teacher. If you have a good teacher, the class is super interesting and you’ll learn a lot. Mine isn’t that great; so I’m sitting in class bored out of my mind.
Why did I wait until senior year to take this class again?
Just because it’s easy doesn’t mean that it isn’t “worth” anything. APES at my old school was really fun, and Honors EnviSci (same thing) is an extremely beneficial course here as well.
^ my point. Even if the class is a bit of a drag; I’ve learned some super interesting stuff that I know I’ll be able to use later in life.
Depends on your school. Ask people who have taken/are taking it about the difficulty. Although I’ve heard that my school is an anomaly, my school’s APES course is absurdly difficult/practically impossible to get an A in.
