AP Euro: Several Questions

1) My teacher announced to our class that he will be using the AP curve for our tests and quizzes. Can someone please explain this?

2) What are some methods for outlining (I know, I know. Whatever works for you :).......No!)

3) Are there any experiences of students receiving a 95+ in this class? How much time did you devote daily to the class?

Thanks in advance.

Lastly, what are some useful ways to understand history (systems, methods, etc.)

Thanks again.

Bump!!!

Hey I’m in AP Euro too. I think you need to relax a bit, just do your work and you’ll do fine. But anyways…

1) We don’t have an AP curve in our class but from what I’ve heard they grade it so that if you get a percentage that would be a 5 on the real test, they give you an A. If it’s a 4 it is a B. So on…

2) I would recommend just jotting down a sentence or two about each “key” term if your teacher gives you them. Otherwise make up what you think a key term should be.

It’s actually not that hard of a class!

A) For tests, my teacher used a “curve system” too. For example, if the test was out of 50, usually he would allow us to miss 4 or 5 and still get 100%. For example. On the first AP Euro test last year, I got a 46 out of 53 (some silly mistakes.) He allowed us to miss 5 and still get a 100%, so it now showed up as a 46 out of 48. I got a 96% on the first test. (I was happy with that since I wasnt sure what to expect.)

B) I only highlighted in the book. And Im an excessive highlighter too… but I found that when I highlight I have to reread the important info twice. Once when I find it and figure out its important, and then again as Im highlighting it. We also got “study guides” with chapter summaries with key vocab terms (usually around 30-35), and I would make FLASHCARDS!! I was the only person in my class that did that! It usually took me around 7 hours total to make all the flashcards. It seems silly, but youll have them for the final test to study and final exam for the class. It also helps making you find the information again, and then writing it down. I would go indepth on the flashcards since the class was in depth.

C) Yes. I would fall behind on the reading during the week because I didnt feel like reading so much, and would read the sections during block biology (or as much as I could.) I would then spend 5 hours a day on it on Saturday and Sunday. The night before I would study for ~5-7 hours… and get about 4 hours of sleep.

Good luck. (Its really an easy class)

I took AP Euro last year and got a 5, as well as over 95% both semesters. Don’t freak, it’s not that bad :)

I don’t know about the “AP curve” that your teacher is using, but my teacher used a curve for all our tests. He took the highest grade for each test and set that at 100%.

For each chapter, we were assigned questions and flashcards. The flashcards were probably my most useful tool… I would memorize all of them. TRUST ME, they come in handy. And before every chapter test, I outlined the chapter in depth. This really helped also, because our tests were pretty detail-oriented.

Since AP Euro was my only AP class last year (I was a sophomore), I was able to devote about 2-3 hours a night, depending on the work-load. My advice: read ALL the chapters in your textbook. Know what happened in every time period, and take note of the dates at which events occurred. (Knowing dates will really help on the AP test, although you probably won’t need to know dates for your regular class)
