AP Euro Thread

When: May 5th
What: From Late Middle Ages - The Contemporary Age (very detailed)
Test Format: Multiple Choice (less than or equal to 80 questions)
2 Free Response essays (they give you 3 choice answers)
1 DBQ essay (they give you a 15-min reading period, only)
Total time = 2 hrs. 15 min (i think)
Books: Birdsall Viault's "Modern European History", REA's "AP Euro", Princeton Review's "AP Euro", and a textbook detailing Western Society.
My Study Method: 1. read viault and textbook
2. make flashcards of all those retarded philosophers
3. memorize the glossary
4. pass out from sleep-deprivation
you guys?
Comments: Teacher, "The graders are teachers, professors, researchers, etc. who all congregate in May to do a whole month of test-grading, so they'll definitely detect the b.s. Think before you write."
Student, "The hardest of the AP histories."

WHAT IS EVERYONE DOING? Has anyone actually not procrastinated? (and how did you manage to do it you genius?)

Btw, I was studying and I discovered that like 30% of the test is on social trends and societal shifts (like the status of women, marriage patterns, child-rearing). And...most of that's left out of review books. Are there even any review resources on just the social or society-pattern stuff? I would read the textbook but the stuff is scattered everywhere.

talk to me on AIM: SalhadinX im taking ap euro (hopefully passing it) this yr on my own.

I quit aim like a month ago. Too addicting. lol. So anyways, xerxes, how's your studying? I would say that if you're taking it on your own, you might want go listen to some review sessions that the ap teachers in your school offer (if they have any). Or study with ap people.

Oh yeah, and REA has social stuff. So yea..to my above post, lol.

A few questions: 1. Will the contemporary age involve europe's recent leaders? (like up to 2005?)
2. Someone told me there'd be art comparison questions, from like different time periods. Should we study that and where is it?
3. During the 15 min reading period, are you allowed to make notes on the paper? And for the frq's, how long should you spend on each, and on the dbq?

useful fact: the ap euro is always based on standard curve, so about 2/3 pass.

1.Contemporary stuff probably won't be on it, I very much doubt they will ask who the current Chancellor of Germany is or something like that.

2.Art comparison questions are usually multiple choice.

3.Yes, you can make notes during the reading period. I think I spent 45 min on the DBQ and 30 on each essay but it has been several years since I took AP Euro and I could be mis-remembering.

Thanks josephine!

Hmm, also, did you spend a lot of time writing the introductions and conclusions for the FRQ's? Anyways, now I feel ok about the essays. Multiple choice - sigh.

No, don't bother with long intros. and conclusions, they don't add much to the essay. Even in college for in-class exam essays I sometimes only write one sentence intros and conclusions stating the basic points of the essay. It is much more important to cover as much as possible in the body of the essay.

best advice I can offer on the multiple choice is simply to do tons of practice tests. There will inevitably be questions you don't know. (occasionally very random questions, like on tv programs of the 1960s or something equally irrelevant.) Don't worry about these questions, narrow them if you can and guess.

Good advice. Feel much better, phew.

if it's true that trends such as social status, role of women, etc, is an important part of the test then i'm lucky! my teacher wrote several books on these subjects, which were required reading for my class. however, i'm a little sketchy on the picky detail type of information. oh well... 5 AP exams... i have a lot of studying to do!

you don't even need an intro and a conclusion....

All you need is a thesis.

AP teachers never take away points for no intro or conclusion. It can be the most beautiful into in the world and they won't give you a single point
