Ap exam questions

Hello friends
I am currently a freshman and I want to take ap courses but my school only offers 5 ap classes out of like so many so I was wondering If I can still take the ap test in the spring(not this spring) without actually taking the course in school?
Thanks

It’s not required, but it’s highly recommended that you do. The course is really to prep you for the exam. You’re free to take the exam without taking the class but you’d need a lot of extra studying, and even then you’re not guaranteed to do well. As a senior I would recommend that you don’t waste your time unless you take the class.

wow thanks for you tip
but there is a chance that I can finish college before starting it if i ace all the test? lol. /s

The main reason people want to take AP tests is because, if they do well, they can skip certain introductory courses in colleges (and other benefits too that I can’t name off the top of my head), however you can’t really finish college before starting it. It’ll give you an upper hand in your coursework but you still need to take other classes in order to graduate college.

but still, I can get ahead and graduate early

Hey!
I’m a senior who self studied for an AP exam. I took AP environmental science as a junior and received a 4 on the exam. I’d recommended it for a select few classes but not others. For example, APES, AP Psych, and AP Human Geo are classes I’ve heard people self study for. Alternatively, some people study the “sister” course to a class they’re enrolled in such as AP Comp Gov when they’re taking AP US Gov or AP microeconomics when they’re taking AP Macro since so much of the content overlaps. Overall I’d say it’s definitely doable. I spent about 2.5 hours studying the APES content overall so I’d definitely say it’s not terribly hard. Good luck

thank you very much, I currently have ap world history and I will talk to my current teacher about tips and what do you think is the easiest ap course to self study?

You’re taking AP World as a freshman? Wow I took that as a sophomore. Uhm honestly Psych and APES aren’t too bad. What APs do they have at your school?

in my school, there are AP world, APUSH, AP Europe, AP English language and composition and AP statistics

also, do you know how to register for the ap exam?

Contact the AP coordinator at your school.

okay thanks :+1:

OP asked about taking the test without taking the course. I disagree that this is highly recommended.

OP, you can take the test, but colleges place much more weight on studying a course for a full year, with an instructor, engaging in classroom discussion, writing papers, doing homework, etc., than they do reading a book and passing a two hour test.

I recommend against self-studying for an AP for the purpose of college admission. If you are just extremely interested in the topic, and read the textbook/do the research to learn, that’s a fine way to do it.

I have regular biology in 10 grade(my school doesn’t offer ap bio), and I know regular bio and ap bio is different but if i take ap bio exam, it would be a little easier since i had regular bio.

This is like saying you can do well in Calculus because you took pre-Calculus.

Regular Bio teaches none of the topics of AP Bio. You may recognize more of the terms than someone who took no Bio, but regular Bio will in no way prepare you to do well on the AP Bio exam.

oh, so should I abandon my plan of self-studying and taking ap exams?
