AP exams affecting classes

Is there a chance that our AP exams might affect which classes we have to take? I know they can end up changing our Math class... and probably a few others.
However, I think AP results don't get reported in time for the first orientation sessions... I was just wondering if some of us are going to have to completely change stuff around or what.

i don't know the answer, but i can venture a guess...

i know you take a math placement test before orientation, so i would assume they would go by those results. if your AP results are pending for a GE, i would say put off that GE until second semester when you know your results. and if you can't put it off... you've already taken the test, so you should probably have a decent feel for how well you did. (maybe not?)

however, i think the AP results are used primarily for exemption/credit, rather than placement... hence why we take placement exams.

someone please correct me if i'm wrong.

Some people who have been to earlier orientation sessions in the past have reported that their AP exam scores were there already (prior to the date where you can call in yourself and check), but only if you make sure that when you take the AP you mark you want the scores sent to USC.

my AP scores weren't received by orientation, so i registered for calc I at orientation...then during welcome week, once i got my scores i went to my advisers (in engineering, in my case) who were holding group registration sessions for people who didn't go to orientation and those like me who needed to change classes. i was then allowed to change into calc II. it did mess with my original schedule a bit, but i was still pretty pleased with out it turned out. you might not get your first choice professor in such cases, but as an entering freshman you have to expect that.

i'm taking the AP calc but don't feel very prepared, yet i don't think i need any math classes as a film major, so is the placement test really necessary? i figured once i registered things would be explained but it looks like lots of people are still confused

My S got 5s on all his AP exams but still took all the basic courses at USC & did very well in them. He didn't try to place out of any of them (I am not sure why, but had a nice, relaxing freshman year & got good grades adjusting to engineering). If you want to take the higher level courses, your AP scores might support you when you go talk to your advisors, as phobos did.
