Do you send you AP scores to Penn even if they do not accept it here (http://www.admissions.upenn.edu/apply/freshman-admission/precollegecredit) on their website? When you do send your scores, do you send them after you get accepted or before? Thanks.
You should include your scores as part of your application to Penn, as the admissions committee can evaluate you based on your scores.
@WhartonPenn2017 Can you choose which scores you want to report? Like only the ones you did well on?
@BL2017 I’m pretty sure you could choose. Penn discourages score choice for SAT/ACT, but I think they’re fine with you only sending in AP scores that you want to send in.
Disagree. You should absolutely save your money and only send in your score report once you have been accepted. You can self report AP scores on the Common App.
Once accepted, you can choose which scores to send, but it’s not worth the time and effort to exclude certain scores, IMO. Send them all, and if Penn doesn’t accept credit, the clerk in the registrar’s office will simply disregard it. Chances are that you will never meet him/her, and if you did, she will not be thinking, “That’s the kid that only got a 3 on APUSH.”
@skieurope @BL2017 Sorry, I thought the OP meant should he self-report them (not actually pay the fee to send them in). We’re on the same page here…I was just suggesting self-report the ones you did well on in your application and then officially send them in after you’ve been accepted to get credit. Sorry for confusion.
Is it fine if some scores are self-reported on the Common App while other AP tests are excluded, even though they see you have taken the AP class on your transcript?
In some schools you can take an AP class and not take the actual exam, so they may just think that’s the case. At other high schools, you have to take the AP Exam if you take the AP Class (or they’ll remove the AP designation off your transcript for the class), and if admissions hypothetically knew that about your school, it could raise a red flag. It’s your call…I’d report anything 3 or higher and not report a 1 or 2.
@WhartonPenn2017 No Problem
Can you only report some scores? Yes. Should you? It depends. As noted above, I certainly would not report any scores of a 1 or a 2. However, some schools list all standardized test scores on the transcript, so you might want to check with your GC.
