Hi there. I’m a Junior, and this is the first year I’m taking any AP classes and AP exams (school doesn’t offer any in freshman/soph year). I took AP Lit on Wednesday and I’m taking the APUSH exam tomorrow. I felt comfortable on the Lit exam, but I haven’t done all that much review for this APUSH exam. Anyhow, I’m wondering how negatively a low score (1-3, even though 3 isn’t really that low) will impact my admissions chances for college. I have heard that you can choose not to send your score if it’s not so great, but I am thinking that it will be a bit of a suspicious move to take the APUSH class, take the exam (my school requires it), but then not submit the score that I got back. Is that true? Will admissions officers jump to the conclusion that I did poorly on this exam and that’s the reason I didn’t send it in? I’m just nervous that this one test might really hurt me.
Thanks
No, they won’t jump to any conclusions. But if you are applying to an Ivy League, they might ask you in the interview (if they assume you didn’t take the test) why you didn’t take it?
Ok good. Thanks
If you got a low score, don’t send it. You can send it after you receive the scores, but it’ll come with a minor fee.
Alumni interviews for ivies generally do not ask about your grades and may not even have access to your record. If you go for an on campus interview with admissions, IDK
Normally you just self-report AP scores, although I believe test-flexible schools require official scores for the AP option.
Just don’t report the scores. Also, even if you don’t report ANY scores, most colleges wouldn’t care except for the top schools as long as you had good grades in the class. I did not report my AP Physics B score and still got into schools with acceptance rates between 10% and 20%. They won’t reject you because of a missing AP score.
As for sending the official scores, wait until senior APs. By then you will know which college you attend, so fill out the free sending score option to the college you will be attending on the answer sheet at that time. It will send all your scores, so it saves you money. And they won’t rescind your acceptance if they see a 2 on APUSH, it just means you won’t get credit.
Thank you very much @FireBallsDJ your comment really alleviated a lot of my anxiety
