If any of you took the AP French Exam, have you heard about the problem with the first 1/4 of the listening section? My D was told today that the first 7 of the rejoinders were timed incorrectly and that the students who took the exam are being offered 2 choices- either retake the entire test or the national board would somehow adjust the scoring to reflect the problem. This problem was nationwide, but that doesn't make her feel any better about the whole thing ! What have you been told?

Really? That sucks pretty bad, hopefully they just adjust the scores. I always “trash” information after the tests to protect my sanity and would do much worse retaking it.

Did she take the Language or Lit French exam? I took the AP French Lang and wasn’t informed of any such problem.

Yea, my friend is retaking just that section or something. Apparently the speed of the prompts gave no time for answering.

Wow, I think that everyone who took the French Language AP needs to talk to their teacher or administration ASAP! The first 7 questions went much faster than the others, so there is the problem. As of now, things are being delivered second-hand, but she’s been told that she would have to take the ENTIRE EXAM over again, or that those questions (and there’s the problem since they haven’t said whether it would be just the 7 or the entire section!) wouldn’t be counted. That’s what has her panicked! All of the other AP’s she’s ever taken were just fine, but this one had her spooked and now, THIS?! While she loves French, the idea of taking the exam again is awful because she thinks that she did well on this one and her teacher agrees that the class (there are only 3 of them!) lucked out since it seems like the exam and the questions on it fit well with what they had studied.
Her school is small and they ship the exams out as soon as they are finished with them, which may be why they found out so quickly. I will keep you posted on what I hear from the administration but, GUElle, run, don’t walk, to your teacher in the morning to find out what they have heard. It is definitely a problem, but schools are being notified one by one. The day of the “retake” exam would be 5/20.

^ I’ll do that ASAP! I actually talked to my teacher earlier today because I missed her class all last week due to other AP Exams – and she made no mention of any problem! That said, I guess I’ll have to wait till Wednesday as AP Chem is tomorrow.

I really think it’s horrible that such an error even occurred! Or that no one is bothering to tell my class about it! Thanks for the info!

I found a link to this on one of the other Forums: Excuse the adults’ poor spelling and grammar, even though they should be ashamed of themselves and I agree, I have no idea how something like this could happen and I really don’t like the comment the woman in charge made about a “full investigation”- sounds like garbage to me:

six people at my school took the test – i think the other five are gonna do the retake, but my score doesn’t matter, so i’m not gonna bother

i mean, it did affect my performance on the items and the subsequent ones, but they aren’t counting those, sooo…
