Well, since it seems to be the last year they're going to have it, I'm thinking why not try?

Do you think that it's selfstudy-able? It seems easier than the language one.

Do you think that it's selfstudy-able? It seems easier than the language one.

Hey there,

Yeah I'm going to be self-studying it as well. I've heard that it is much easier from a former AP French teacher who told me about how one girl got a 3 on the AP French Lang. exam but then a 4 on the AP French Lit. exam. Her method was just to read the books in English first, then read them in French for further analysis. I've already read half of the books on the list (Candide, Moderato Cantabile, La tempete, L'ecole des femmes) but haven't started looking at the poems yet, though they don't seem to be too difficult. I'm most worried about the MC section because it's much more difficult than AP French Lang. reading, as it's about literary techniques, intended meanings, etc. rather than just comprehension. There's no real way to practice for that except through other AP French Lit. exams or just building up literary skills in French.

Also, I'm hoping that the graders will be nicer this year with grading since it IS the last year... I've heard a lot of anger and frustration about CB from French teachers about this test. And of course, since they'll be the ones grading our essays, then I wonder what that'll mean for our scores... :S

Hey, I am also self studying the exam and I would love to discuss it with you.

I am taking AP French Literature and AP French Language. The Language test covers vocabulary and grammar skills, whereas the Literature tests analytical skills. They kind of both go hand in hand. For example, AP French Literature can help you with the reading comprehension (Multiple Choice) section of the Language test. In addition, the Language test challenges your sentence structure and vocabulary, something that can give you a few extra points on the Literature test. Now to your question. The required reading list for the AP French Literature exam is no problem to complete on your own;however, it would be to your advantage to have at least someone who is fluent in French, preferably an AP French teacher, to grade your essays based on the AP French rubric. Multiple choice questions may be hard to find, especially in Literature, but they often are self-explanatory when it comes to grading them. Though this is the last year of French Literature, self-study would be better in AP French Language, because there are more readily available study guides. If you know someone who is experienced in French Literature (AP), consult with them, and that would be your best way of self-study for the Literature Test.

XD (o.o i dunno if i should be adding that "s" to the lu. hehehe, grammar-ness)

encore, merci trop!!! and i dont even know if that's a real french saying at all... XD

j’esp

From what I’ve heard, the AP French Lit exam is VERY difficult. If you’re self-studying, I hope you have a French teacher helping you out to make sure you understand. The reading list is long and apparently the test is pretty killer.

Well, from what I’ve heard, the AP French Lit exam is really not that difficult. Only one person at my school has taken the test in 4 years or so, and she scored a 4 (while only scoring a 3 on the Lang. exam). She read through the reading list first in English, then in French. According to her and my old AP teacher, the test’s graders are much more generous, making the FRQ section considerably easier.
