AP French or Anatomy?

What would you prefer, taking AP French or Anatomy and Physiology? I am planning on going to college to major in Biology (Pre-Med)? I have a love for French and want to take AP French but at the same time want to take Anatomy. What’s your prefrence?

High school elective biology courses (beyond high school biology and AP biology) are unlikely to be that much help in preparing for college biology courses that you will take as a pre-med, so you may as well satisfy your interest in French now, which can help you take more advanced college French courses if desired (and better knowledge of another language like French is sometimes useful in medical contexts, such as practicing in some parts of Louisiana or some northeastern states).

Will your four year high school schedule contain the courses recommended in http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/high-school-life/2055289-faq-high-school-college-prep-base-curriculum.html ?

Well, I will disagree with @ucbalumnus a bit.

Depending on the quality of your high school’s anatomy instruction, it can be beneficial to take high school anatomy if you know you will take it in college. My daughter is a nursing student who just got an A in her anatomy class (after a lot of extra time and work) and she says she is glad she took it in high school. This is a “weed-out” class that all the health science majors take. She was familiar with everything in the class. The college class, of course, went into much greater depth but that high school class was a good primer. The high school teacher was tough but a great anatomy instructor.

I assume maybe for scheduling purposes you have to choose between the two? If you’ve got a great high school anatomy instructor, consider taking the class. Of course, you have to balance that against everything else you are taking.

Good luck!

Have you had four years of science? If not, take the science class. Have you had 3-4 years of language? If not, take the language.

Anatomy is excellent for nursing students who’ll encounter the class their first year but not for pre-meds (who won’t).
In addition, an AP foreign language is one of the ‘hard’ APs.
So I’d recommend AP French over Anatomy, unless you’re doing poorly in French.
Have you taken bio, chem, physics (and one of those AP?) What will your senior year Science be?
