I have been told that there is scheduling conflict between my AP French & AP Physics classes and that I can only take one of them. I really enjoy taking French but I have never taken a Physics class before, and as a prospective premed student, I’m afraid to enter college without any background in the subject.
I have the options of instead taking AP French & Honors Physics, AP Physics and AP Stats, or AP French & AP Stats. Which option would look best in the college admissions process? What would best prepare me for college?
(The other APs that I plan to take my senior year are English Lit & Calc AB, if that makes any difference)
I feel your pain, ugh. I had to choose between Honors Anatomy, AP Calc, AP Psych, Honors French, and AP Human Geo; I could only take 3 of those 5 classes.(there was also AP Chem, but my school won’t be offering it this year - seriously what the heck).
As a prospective premed kid myself, I say go for AP Physics and AP Stats. The college level physics and maths will go a long way for premed kids, plus I’d say it’s higher priority than your foreign language course. If you’ve been taking French for 3 years+ then you’re good to go with that knowledge. I guess it really depends on the school and their requirements because some schools /prefer/ you do 4 years of a language whereas others /recommend/ it.
Then again, you could always self-study and still take the AP French exam. You don’t have to be taking the AP Course in order to take the AP exam (e.g. I’m planning to retake my AP Bio exam in May because I totally BOMBED it my junior year)
Definitely take high school physics to prepare for physics in college, but it is ok if it is not AP physics. So if you really like French, you can take AP French and physics.
