AP French Study Thread -- 2010 Edition

and it wouldn’t be y visiter? you guys are saying its la visiter…

ppmirmov: I may be wrong, but I think you may be confusing: rendre visite a qqn and visiter qqch/qqn

so the answer is la visiter?

I think it’s “y visiter” for some reason. ppmirmov, #26 is plus-que-parfait because the other verb in the si clause is in conditional past. I think #29 is probably future because the other verb of the si clause (#30) is probably in the present.

I’m in French III right now and my teacher (the only French teacher at our school) is pretty bad–she expect us to understand weird French grammar and things right away.

But I love French as a language, and I want to take up to French V and then take the AP test. I’ll still take the class but I bet my grammar and vocab won’t be as good as they should be for the AP test. I’m a sophomore now and I’ll be a senior when I’m taking the test.

What should I do from now until the AP test to prepare? What books are concise for grammar, and what books have lots of important vocabulary? What French TV shows/newspapers/books are good for absorbing French?

26 is not plus que parfait because “avions voulu” is plus que parfait - so if there already is one (being AVIONS) - then it has to go to AURAIT-

29 can’t be future because there isn’t a subject- if there was a NOUS before the line, it’d have been nous serons- so, since there isn’t a subject, it’s soyons - imperative. "Next time, let’s be more punctual if we are capable of it - sommes.

30 = sommes. for si clauses, there can be a imperative/present combination. its not always necessarily pres/fut

it can also be pres/pres and pres/imperative

aurait fallu being a past conditional
pqp/pc si clause

what have been some recent curves?

is it always like 126/160 for a 5?

it can’t be significantly lower?

Crap. I totally misread #26 on the test.

Wouldn’t “La prochaine fois” be the subject for #29? I picked future because present or imperative wouldn’t make sense for “La prochaine fois,” given that it’s “next” time.

la prochaine fois can’t be a subject, because “the next time” can’t be more punctual - WE have to be more punctual.

La prochaine fois, soyons plus ponctuels

Damn, I guess I misinterpreted that whole clause… Ugh, I probably got somewhere between 21 and 24 or the fill-ins. I’m more worried about saying that I would hate to lost my intelligence for the speaking when they apparently asked for a “objet.”

EDIT: Am I the only one who thinks that Monday’s fill-ins were way more difficult than those of previous years? Or was it just the time pressure?

I thought they were much more lenient than in the past, actually.

well you arent the only one who thinks that that test was torture and disgusting and took all pleasure for the years of learning french one may have attained - it was disgusting. freaking disgusting.

i just need to hear from someone that the curve will be lower this year. do i have 5 potential if i got 12/15, 13/15, 23/25, 8/9 and a horrible fail for multiple choice?

Do you think the graders will mark me off for interpreting intelligence as being “un objet?”

^ i dont think significantly
i think at most they’ll take off like .5 or something b/c they know you’re nervous and they know that you know objet=object
dont worry… i was trying to say credit card or wallet or purse and just couldnt think of it so after a HUGEEE pause i came up with if ‘their money had identification’… LOL

and i messed up hugely on fill in the blanks even tho they werent that bad

oh well we’ll see…

woah i freaked out a little when ppvmirmov said she/he was going to “cry and slit [his/her] wrists right now”… you shouldnt say that ever! ever! even if youre kidding! ap french is important, but keepin’ all your vital bodily fluids in your body is alwaysss more important(:

lol on a less uptight note:
number 10 on the fill-in looks debatable. several answers seem to work, so CB is probably going to allow multiple answers to receive credit!! i personally put que…
i think i did well on the fill ins, because my answers are tallyin’ with your guys’ answers :OO legasp.
anyways, im praying for a 4 :o realistically, i probably got a 3. all the practice tests i took indicated a 5… >< ah well.

I’ve heard that a 26 or 27 will put you on the path to a 5, and 15 or 16 a 3. Do you guys know the average # correct for a 4?

What do you mean 26/27 and 15/16? What is that referring to?

I think he/she means out of the 30 possible fill ins…
