"AP Gov"

Hey, just wanted to clarify a certain term which I have been noticing people on CC use recently. When you use the term “AP Gov” does that refer to both government APs? Does it refer to one of the two? Is it just contextual and up to the person writing it?
I’d like to know if there’s universal knowledge on this that I’m ignorant about. Thanks.

I think it stands for AP Government and Politics although I may be wrong or half right.

@writer80 AP Government and Politics is not a class, but AP US Government and Politics and AP Comparative Government and Politics are both classes. Each seem as though they have the same abbreviation.

I use it for AP US Government and Politics. I believe that is the course that is more commonly offered at high schools.

I personally use it for AP US Government. I think I’ve heard AP Comp Gov for the other class before.

Thats what I meant, US Gov, sorry.

When I see someone write AP Gov, I assume s/he means US Gov. Given that 300K students take the AP US gov exam vs. 22K for AP Comp Gov, and that many sates have a US gov graduation requirement, I think that’s a safe bet.

Now if students would only be specific when they ask a question about AP Physics. :slight_smile:

@skieurope Agreed.

At my school, AP Gov conotates a combination of the two classes- meaning the material for both US and Comparative is taught, and students choose which AP they want to take at the end of the year.

@yonceonhismouth My school is the same, except most students take both tests in the same year.
