AP Human Geography 09!!

Ah, I am a well-seasoned senior. And yankeeman, no. In fact, colleges don’t see AP scores at all. That’s the sad reality of the situation. They only see them in the summer when you choose to send them. Otherwise, the scores are completely self-reported, and, thus, not credible.

However, the beauty of knowledge and knowing that you did indeed learn enough to attain a 5 should be motivation enough to do so :)

So for future years (I’m a sophomore), I should only self-study courses that I want to exempt from/credit is offered in college?

WHOAH WHOAH WHOAH. so if i just took the ap world history test, studied my butt off for the last two months and got a 5, it wont affect my chances to get into a good college at ALL? they dont care what score you got when it comes to the admission process?!

Do whatever you want :). I personally say only self-study courses in which you are interesed and are motivated to learn. Don’t ever do anything just to get into college. I never did, and I turned out fine.

My roommate for next year (at Columbia) only took 3 AP courses, and he got in. It’s not about the amount of APs you take, guys.

what did he do to get in to columbia with only 3 aps? what made him so spectacular, if it wasnt that? btw congrats on getting into columbia yourself :)

Haha, thanks. He’s a brilliant writer, is passionate about what he does, and his recommendation letters showed that, as I’m sure did mine. Note: I haven’t taken math since my sophomore year, and I stopped at precalc. It’s really not a formula. In fact, the more stereotypical of a student you are, the harder it is, I’d say, which is why I’mt elling you to do what you love to the fullest as I did. That’s all you need. Don’t let college rule your life. If you pursue your passions, everything will fall into place.

wow. thats awesome to hear! i want to be a lawyer, so im assuming that taking maths would be a good idea (although i hate math, haha) but histories fascinate me (cue me taking world history and human geo this year). i think im going to self study euro as my school doesnt offer it.

I signed up for self-study as well (with absolutely no prior knowledge about it).

Haven’t started studying…I’ll cram in about 4 hours tonight and take it tomorrow.

From the looks of it, lots of it is common sense/overlapping some concepts from subjects like history.

Do it! Learning is awesome, whether or not it’s for the purpose of getting into college. In fact, I actually think that my sincerity is part of what got me in. My essay was about kaffeeklatsching with my friends, haha. Just be you, and really do what you can to further your interests. You is all you need  And either way, you’ll end up being happer, less stressed, and will be more satisfied with life.

Thanks a lot pizzacato, I’ll certainly keep this in perspective as I prepare for college. (Hopefully it will save a lot of AP money as well haha  )

:). It’s something that many forget. Dedication and passion is dedication and passion, even if it’s not in the pre-packaged, college confidential form.

what a weird name for an AP…i thought it was human anatomy lol

Has anyone taken Human Geo and knows if just studying it now will make it impossible to do well?

you’ll do just fine if you cram and really do some intense studying for the rest of the night (and maybe into the morning…hahah)

just read the review books. highlight stuff thats important tonight, try to go over the highlighted later on, and review it tomorrow morning for an hour before the test. thats what i did (even though ive had the class all year, our teacher is an idiot and his passing rate is pretty much 3%) and i think im set. im aiming for a 4, though. a lot of people taking it are just REALLY smart, and im not really in that category. gotta leave room for them.

theres only a few basic ideas that you have to get down, and a bit of definitions. a few formulas, models and people, and a whole lot of common sense.

AHHHHHH
i just started studying about an hour ago.
ughhhh =[
3 hours of cramming should work, right?

Can somebody explain all the essential models we need to know (Von Thunen, Rostow, Gravity etc.)

I took AP Human Geography online through a local college, and I do not know anything. I am sad over this fact. :(
