I have a few questions that my review books are unclear of.

In Rostow's stages of industrialization, at which stage do internal improvements and development of infrastructure occur in? Barron's says stage 3, but PR says stage 2.

In Von Thunen's model, what are the reasons that agricultural products are located where are there? PR says that the type of farming is determined by how labor-intensive the type of farming is, while other books stress that it is because of other factors. Please explain.

Thanks.

1) Internal improvements and development of infrastructure begin in Stage 2 and increases substantially in Stage 3.

2) Von Thunen’s model states the perishability of agricultural products, transportation costs, how intensely the land is used, rent, and the value of the crops determine where it would be grown. Foods like produce need to be grown near the market as they perish quickly, can be grown with a small piece of land, and they sell for higher prices than other crops, justifying the higher land rent. On the other hand, grains don’t perish quickly and require large pieces of land; they also sell for cheaper prices and can’t justify the high rent that is near the market.
