AP Human Geography - What type of prep?

I just called up my friend and he has the released exam, so I went over to see it.
The exam grid is this:
70-120 = 5
58-69 = 4.
That's all I am gonna show you because all of us should either get a 4 or a 5.
The mc and free response are 50/50.
My goal is gonna be to get 55/75 questions correct, because the weighted score would be 50, and then you have to multiply that by .8 to get 40, which is a very good score. I am a little scared though because the graders really grade the free-response hard, and I went to collegeboard, and saw what my answer would be and it would have been a 50%. So, with a score of a 40/60, and a 30/60, I would have a 70, just barely getting the 5.
The MC is a LOT more in depth than the Barron's test too, so I am a little scared.

I took the 2001 Released exam, and I did very bad.
The test was so hard, and the Barron's review book maybe helped me with about 10-15 of the questions, and the other 60 questions were general and not in the Barron's book, so I had no clue on them.
I AM SO SCREWED.

i read Barron's (i'm self-studying) and I took the 2001 exam on friday. I got 53/74 (one question was not scored from the test) and a multiple choice section I weighted score of 39.12. With 31 weighted points (about half) from Section II, I would have a 5.

SO, my point is that the Barron's book IS helpful - you just have to know EVERY single detail that they present in order to be successful.

Good luck to everyone - 8 days!

A few of the questions on the exam did not come for the Barron's book, and were about general geography, like which people introduced the saltbox house to North America?

buffitthemaster, did you memorize all the key terms in the barrons book?

What reccomendations can you give to people who want to self study for the test? What textbooks should we buy? From where? Or are there online course materials?

Yea, I knew all of the Key Terms, but that was not enough they asked some random geographic questions, about urban dwellers and forward capital, which I believe was not mentioned enough in the Barron's book, the key terms will give you probably about 20 questions.

Did any of you read the extended reading at the end of each chapter in Barrons?

I read none of the extended readings because I thought it would be pointless and a waste of time, instead of reading those I would pick up the study guide by Rubenstein for A Cultural Landscape, because that details a lot more than the Barron's book.

its MONDAY, ITS MONDAY, ITS MONDAY!!! ='(

It's gonna be pretty hard, not just the MC, but the free-response could be on anything!!!

!!!

i dont know what happened but it somehow got into my head that i only had to do 2 of the 3 open-ended...and thats what i did. :|

i studied so much, i had a ggood chance of doing really well otherwise.

so HOW SCREWED AM I?? :(

..........anyone??

I totally bombed an essay last year and still made a 5...

Well, i am just wondering, where did you get that idea?

Also did anyone notice that a few of the multipe choice questions on the exam came straight from the Barron's review book??? (Strange). And also the all the terms that we needed to define on the open ended questions were also key terms in the Barron's review book?

Did the maker of the Barron's review also make the AP exam?
:)

yeah the Barron's book was amazing!!

idk, i just got confused because in the history AP you get to choose which essays to do and i guess i forgot which teacher said what..

yeah, I know where you're coming from. Were you taking the European History exam?

yes, barrons was good. i think one of the barron's authors did graduate work with Mona Domosh (Dartmouth) who is either the cheif reader or haed of the development committee...hrm...

amazing, how did you find this stuff out?

on the back of the 2001 released exam, mona domosh's name is listed as vice-chair of development committee, but i think i heard somewhere that she was now the chair. My AP gov teacher also indicated that Mona has some ties with the barron's guy...who knows!
