AP/IB Credit

I’m not sure if something like this was posted, but I’m going to be entering my freshman year at UF this fall and I have a question regarding credit. I’ve picked my courses and my cousin who is about 3 years in and plans on going to med school gave me some news

So I took ap calc ab my junior year and got a 5. I also took IB math sl and I’m projected a 7, 6 worst case. I already have stats in my freshman year schedule, but she was saying med school won’t accept me, or I’ll be at a disadvantage if I don’t take calc 1 at college

Similarly, I took IB chemistry HL and I’m projected a 6/7, 5 worst case and I did exceptionally well in the course in my opinion. I was starting off in chm 2046, which is chemistry 2 and she was saying I needed to take Chem 1 again or med school wouldnt accept me/I’ll be at a disadvantage compared to other people.

Can anyone please let me know if that’s actually true? I really don’t want to spend my time taking calc 1 and Chem 1 if I don’t have to. Thanks.

Also, I’m hoping to get into UF medical school. I mean if I don’t get in there and get in elsewhere it’s not biggie, but she was saying most colleges won’t accept my credit from ap calc and chemistry for calc 1 and Chem 1 in college respectively.

Tldr: have credit for Chem 1 and calc 1. Can I skip them and not be at a disadvantage when it comes to med school application time

Did your college award you credit for your AP/IB test scores? Was the credit recorded as an equivalent to a specific course at UF?

Assuming that both of the above are true, then use the list below to see what the AP/IB credit policies are for all US med schools—

Note that South FL SOM requires applicants using AP/IB credits to supplement AP/IB credits with upper level electives in the same area. (IOW, if you skip gen chem using AP credits, then you must take an additional semester/year of upper level chem electives to fulfill admission requirements.)

This link is a little newer (updated last summer)

Thank you both. I have been awarded credit for calc. I’m waiting for chemistry this summer, but it’s pretty much guaranteed. I need a 5/7 on ib and I’m projected higher. So you don’t think I’d be at a disadvantage compared to other applicants if I didn’t take those two in undergrad

Certainly not if you’re taking chem 2/calc2

I won’t be taking calc 2, but I’m taking lots of chem classes, and I’ll be taking stats. Do I need calc 2

only a handful of med schools require it and if you’re taking some other college math course I don’t think it will matter. I assume you’re doing a chem major? You don’t need it for that? I needed calc 2 for my bio major (well, because I was doing a BS instead of a BA).

UF chem majors are required to take 3 semester of calculus plus linear algebra is strongly recommended.
