AP Independent Study

There might already be a thread about this, but what are some AP's that can be learned well independently? And were your scores on ind. study AP's generally lower than the AP's that you also took a class for? Oh, and what are some popular online AP programs?

I self-studied Euro History: I got a 4. That is the only AP so far where I have not gotten a 5, although Spanish Lit on Friday is looking to change that.

All of them can be learned independently, you just have to have good resources, determination, a calculator, and an amazing reading ability.

Realistically though:: Human Geography, Psychology, Environmental Science, and Macro/Microeconomics are jokes. You can get a 5 by simply watching the news and reading a newspaper.

I'm going to self study Spanish and Italian at AP, their easy since I can speak Portuguese(There's NO AP Portuguese!!!). Also AP French but I'm taking classes for that too. I'll try an economic one too and maybe human geography(from reading the post above)

JHU CTY has some online AP couses.

Jake, I'm planning to self-study AP ITalian too! I've been taking Italian for two years, but I definitely won't be ready... and the culture section is going to rape me. Why am I thinking so far in advance?

I've never done self-study before (well, that's essentially what I did for physics, but never mind) but for next year, I am considering Span Lit, Microeconomics (I'll be taking Macro), and definitely Italian. I don't think it's going to happen though.

AP psychology and AP U.S. government are supposed to be really easy.

Have you ever heard of a student doing an AP course as independent study but does not take the AP exam but still is able to have the course listed on transcript.

not exactly "independent" study... but you can take it at a local uni.

Its still on their transcript? Thats crazy! We cant even get AP on our transcript if its ind. study... Anway, i was wondering if French Lit is self studyable. I want to take it, but we dont offer ANY AP french, and i feel i can be ready if i refine my grammar schools durig the summer to do Lit, because i already kinda can. Is it realistic, or is it better to just take it a CC? Thanks to anyone who answers!

i took chem online last year (got a 5)
i selfstudied bio this year, and i think i got a 5 (but ive also taken honors bio, human anatomy, and molecular bio....)

self studying is really quite easy if you start doing it soon enough (not the week before...cough...not that i did that or anything...)

caffeinated: What site did you use for chem?

I just took Physics B self-taught, and it wasn't that bad (I'm a sophomore). Next year self-taught is going to be Physics C and Music Theory, but Chem, Java and US History with classes.

Independent study Music Theory? Is it possible without spending lots of money on equipment/software, unless you are already a musical genius...

Dunno...played piano for 11 years, guitar for 4...haven't taken a look at the topics yet, though (as in, a review book), so maybe my plans will change when I do that, but we'll see.

there are no review books for music theory... sigh... i wish there was.

eh? Hmm...how do you know the covered topics, then? I mean, in detail, not the list they give on collegeboard.

I took the class, but um yeah. I think they tell teachers and stuff at their conferences or whatever they call it. If you do independent study, its most of "Music in theory and practice" plus some stuff they dont cover. And there should be a somwhat more detailed list in AP central.

i took it on APEX

Considering AP Psych. Independent Study next year...
