AP Lang. IT'S HARD

I don't know about you, but my school's AP Lang class is so hard!!! I've been working on this for the last 6 hours on an essay that only needs to be around 250 words.

Is your Lang class hard???? D:

what’s different about this paragraph than all the other ones you’ve written besides it being for AP lang?

that is a long time to be spending on 250 words. it might be an indication of a writing problem or a severe focusing problem, or perfectionism problem, or some other kind of problem

how many words are you at so far? good luck with it…

No AP Lang for me because it’s like shooting myself in the foot :/. Not good at Lang.

I have SO much down already, it’s just that it sucks…

It might be the perfectionism problem… But idk…

And it is different because he asks for SO MUCH. And it’s like a prewrite sort of thing.

Also this guy is harshhh.

I just took AP Lang this past year and I thought it was a pretty easy class.I really liked my teacher. She prepared us well (i got a 5 on the exam).

Yes… Sometimes I can spend hours on one essay given I have the whole night to do it. IT IS HARD. You have to score an 8 or 9 on half of your papers to get an A! The most I’ve ever gotten was a 7.

That does sound like a long time for only 250 words

There are 2 AP Lang teachers at my school. One is good but the class isn’t that difficult. (I had her.) The other one sucks and his essays take 6 hours and he does the prewrite, rewrite, and revise thing. (A week before the exam, his kids didn’t even know what a synthesis essay was. They had never taken a multiple choice test either.)

There are two AP Lang teachers at my school. One is really good, and the other knows what she’s doing but she’s crazy and plays favorites! We start taking practice tests like the second week of school.

I don’t think the class should be threatening. In English, you shouldn’t strive for perfection in writing. Think about the flow you want and direct it well.
Build your writing confidence by taking it easy. It is just an essay. Don’t smother it with flamboyant vocabulary but make it natural.

Yeah, my Lang class last year had a really relaxed feel. You weren’t striving for a grade the whole time. You were striving for improvement. The grade came in at the end, when you turned in your final stuff. But for most of the year, your stuff could be complete crap and you wouldn’t get a low grade (as long as when you turned it in at the end it was good–THEN it mattered).

I’m not here to brag or anything, however I also don’t know how well the AP class itself correlates with the AP test, but I literally went in to take the AP test cold and got a 4.

Don’t know if that means anything, but maybe lang isn’t for everyone?

Well tonight it only took like 45 minutes.

But last night was insane and he returned my essay and he said, “It’s a bit confusing!” I was so ****ed off because of how much work I put in and all I get back was, “It’s confusing”.

Oh this is going to be a baddddd year

aw i’ve been told that before :(. no, no i think it was actually that my essay was convoluted. i don’t know if that’s worse. but it’s not a good feeling…

the answer to that would be “yes” i think.

DON’T think that way. Just relax, go in knowing you’re gonna improve if you really want to. If you want enough to have a successful year, you’re gonna have a successful year. I had friends in Lang last year that couldn’t write more than a page double-spaced for an essay in the beginning, but would by the end get 8s and 9s on in-class essays. it’s because they didn’t get disheartened by criticism–they took it and used it to their advantage. BTW, if your teacher tells you it’s confusing, then it’s confusing. Improve it because you know you can.

My class was easy. We only wrote about two big essays the entire year and our teacher gave easy A’s. She only taught us the basic stuff, I didn’t really learn much new vocabulary. I got an A in the class both semesters, but I barely passed the AP test with a 3.
