AP Language and Composition & AP Psychology through FLVS

Hello everyone,

I am considering taking AP Lang and AP Psych during this summer, and I was wondering what the courseload is like, and whether the course is sufficient prep for the exam (I do realize that if I complete the course during the summer, I will not have access to the course in the spring to prepare). Taking them at my school isn’t really an option, because I’m entering the IB Diploma Programme and the elective spots are taken by AP courses not offered FLVS.

Thank you very much!

Does anyone have any insight to these courses? Also concerning APUSH through FLVS?

Well, first, my friend took AP Psychology on FLVS, and he said it wasn’t too much work. However, my freshman english teacher also taught AP Lang online, and she said that there’s a greater amount of reading than in an in-school class. I don’t know about APUSH. However, as a person who is taking an AP class on FLVS, I don’t think that it’s very realistic to do two AP classes and finish them both over the summer. I mean, it’s possible, but very hard. To be honest, I would recommend starting them both over the summer, but only finishing one by the end of the summer, and keeping one into the school year. That’s more realistic.

And secondly, I believe you will still have access into the course until the AP exam. My FLVS teacher says that you have access even if you finish (I’m in AP Environmental Science by the way), and my friend that finished an AP over the summer had access. I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure you wll have access.

I am taking AP Psych thru FLVS its honestly a joke. I dont really learn anything, and I have a 95 in the class

Thank you very much for your insights, I will take them into consideration. I have been planning on finishing AP Lang before the school year starts (as it is a prereq for AP Lit, which I am taking), and continuing Psych into the academic year.

@1601er
It is a bit disappointing to hear about your lack of education in the course. A lot of self studying, I suppose.

Yes, very much! Unless u want to read the book, lessons plans, prep books, and external resources you have to find on your own. It’s too tedious. If I were you I would do something like AP Stats (if you are good at math) instead and take AP Psych in a classroom. In your case why not take IB Psych?

@1601er Yeah, I’m planning on taking Stats eventually, so maybe I’ll flip the planned schedule. My school doesn’t offer IB Psych and my plans have actually changed since I originally posted. I’m going to not continue in the IBO DP so I have a greater flexibility in the classes I can take as my school does not offer a wide variety of IB classes.

I see. Good luck with whatever u choose to do!

Is AP environmental hard?

@Quantum_Mechanics123 The class is pretty easy, but there’s a lot of busy work (dumb labs that are illogical, essays). Overall it’s pretty easy. Haven’t taken the exam yet, so I’ll let you know if I felt prepared in May haha

I am taking AP Language now. I really enjoy it. I currently have a 100% in the class and I am about 10 percent done. As for the work load, its pretty light. In a class room, (at least my ole english class) so much time was waisted with the teacher ranting about non sense. Ask me any more questions that you may have, Ill be happy to help

anyone take AP Comp Sci through FLVS how is it
