Of the two AP courses, does one look better than the other on college applications?

How do they compare in terms of workload and content?

If you know what colleges are on your “short list”, look and see if they give credit for both. Some schools give credit for one or the other, but not both. Some give credit for lit but only a class exemption for Lang.

I got more out of Language than Literature, although if you like analyzing more than composing you might prefer Literature. Workload will depend on the school, but Lang is generally a lot of in-class work while Lit involves a plethora of outside reading. Lang also focuses specifically on craft, organization, and technique while still addressing literature. Generally, Lit essays do not require crafty and skilled rhetoric as long as the answer to the question is heavily supported. It’s really a matter of what you prefer.

At my school you take lit or Lang as a senior, you can take both if you have room. Lit is better suited for me as it’s like the other English classes, but all my friends signed up for Lang because it has no homework at my school. I don’t know whether to go with what’d I’d enjoy but have to work for (and alone at that), or join my friends in a class w/ no homework which would be so nice for senior year. I’m signed up for lit right now.

At my school you take Lang as a junior and Lit as a senior. It really varies by school, they are basically equally regarded.
