For AP Prep books, I'm going with REA...

My question relates to FICTION books (NOT AP prep books) that people who have taken/are going to take the test recommend, both as interesting reads and as useful/critical books to know well for the test... Any suggestions?

Over winter break I decided to start reading (voraciously) again, and I went through Ragged Dick, Animal Farm, and Brave New World in a week or so. I am about to start Red Badge of Courage. My favorite books include Catch-22, Farenheit 451, Slaughterhouse-Five. I want to keep this "reading books not assigned by school" going, and I was wondering if you guys could help me out with some nice suggestions... My upcoming batting order is Red Badge of Courage, 1984, Invisible Man... I figure, if I'm going to read, might as well also help myself on the AP.

Any ideas welcome... thanks!

It looks like you've already read or are about to read most of my favorite books, but I guess I have some reccomendations. If you haven't ever read any Dostoyevsky, that would be a great place to start. I've read a few of his works and wholeheartedly reccomend them, although they're pretty substantially different from the books you've mentioned. Aside from that, Dante's Inferno is pretty interesting, and if you're looking at plays, I really enjoyed Shaw's Pygmalion. Really, it's hard to go wrong with anything in the list spirited away posted.

For the foreign works (esp Dostoyevsky) I would search on amazon for the differet translations. Some are better than others and usually, you'll find a knowledgable review about which one to choose.

How could Dostoyevsky be on the English Lit? I was actually going to get some of his stuff but went with Western staples like Crane and Orwell instead...

Thanks for the helpful pointers guys!

Oops... it's just great reading. :X
