I have a question for people taking, will take, or have taken this exam. Getting a 4 or 5 gives you credit for the equivalent of what in college? I'm debating on taking it or not (more on the not side) and if it's worth my time and money to take it. Is social science part of the core curriculum in most colleges?

Most schools put in detail their AP credit policy on their website. AP Macro is a one semester credit.

Yeah, AP Macroecnomics will usually give you a half a credit in economics if you score a 4 or a 5 (but it does depend on the college's AP policy). What EXACTLY do you mean by "social science?" If you specify, I'll be able to help you much better. Good luck :)

No, I was just wondering what AP macro exempts you from in college- they don't really specify (maybe not "social science" but some other core class- could you tell me?). I'm taking 3 other APs and since macro is only worth a semester, I really don't feel taking another one and studying.

Well, what college are you going to?

Well, again it depends on the college. Haha, just because I'm bored, and because I don't mind procrastinating a little bit - I'll look up the AP Policies of the schools I applied to. You could do it yourself at the College Board's site: http://apps.collegeboard.com/apcreditpolicy/index.jsp

Ok, I applied to the following schools [and although I'm not taking AP Macro, this is what credit would be accepted (if any) at those schools]:

Harvard: Economics (macro) - Social Analysis 10 - Spring Term - Consult Dept. Adviser

Dartmouth: (only awards credit for Micro)

Princeton: AP score of 5 in Macroeconomics = 1 credit -> Place out of Economics 101

Yale: (none given for AP Economics)

Cornell: A Macro score of 4 or 5 is three credits and Placement out of Economics 102

Columbia: You need both Macro and Micro (a score of 5 on one and a score of at least 4 on the other to get four advanced credits and to place out of ECON W1105)

Williams: Economics - Students who receive a 5 on the Microeconomics AP or Macroeconomics AP exam, or a 5 on each, may place out of ECON 110 or 120, or both, respectively, but major credit will be given for only one course. You would be eligible to enter a 200 level ECON course.

Amherst: (You don't get credit or advanced standing but you can get out of entry level courses)

NYU: Macroeconomics scores of 4 or 5 get you 4 credits in Introductory Economics. There's a note however: Students who major or minor in economics in the policy concentration are exempt from the introductory principles courses as listed above, but AP credit does not reduce the total number of courses required for the major or minor. AP credit does not apply to the next highest ECON courses in an ECON major

Stony Brook: A Macro score of 3, 4, or 5 has no equivalent course at Stony Brook but you would get 3 credits for any of those scores

Binghamton: An Economics Macro score of 3, 4 or 5 is worth four credits and is equivalent to ECON 162. You would fulfill the Social Science portion of the General Education Requirements

Geneseo: For a 3 on Macro you'd get three credits and it's equivalent to ECON 1TR. For a 4 or 5 on Macro you'd get three credits as well and it's equivalent to ECON 102

Again, these are the credits you'd receive at the schools I applied to. This was just for you to get a general idea. For the credit at the schools you are considering, check out the link in this post. Good luck to you. I hope my post was helpful :)

I'm probably going to Northeastern, Syracuse, or Colgate. On another thought, I'll probably just take it for the hell of it since it would be nice to get credit if I will- who knows. Thanks for all the advice though. (I just really don't like my teacher basically)

Hmm.... ok. It's probably for the best. Honestly, at worst you won't score a 3 or higher on the exam. But the schools will at least see that you challenged yourself senior year with a difficult course load. You really ought to check out the link I posted if you already haven't. There you'll see what credit your schools offer, if any. Good luck to you!

Haha... I couldn't resist:

Northeastern gives credit for 4s and 5s on most AP exams and credit for 3s on certain AP exams.

Syracuse: Ooooh!! Micro and Macro are the only 2 APs for which you can receive credit at Syracuse! For a score of 3 or higher, you get credit for ECN 102.

Colgate: Credit for 4s and 5s on AP exams.

If you have any more schools in mind, or if you would like to know more about the three you listed, check their sites out. Good luck Papersignals!

Thanks for all the info APDoolittle. Great help- I used the link but was too lazy to find the page that listed credit. So I'll just take it and what happens happens. ;)

Cool. Haha, good luck :)
