AP Music Theory vs AP Comp Gov for Ivy league admissions

AP Music Theory vs AP Comp Gov for senior year schedule?
Which would be a better pick to get into a super competitive college? Or are they both viewed more or less equally? And would AP Music Theory still figure into recalculated GPA? It is a non-core class, but it is rigorous.
Please help!

Colleges don’t care. Take the one that interests you more. Either way, there is not guarantee of getting into a super competitive college.

It is what it is. Very few colleges tell you if or how they recalculate GPA

Yes, take the one that interests you.

They are both “elective” APs which means your choice of taking them signals your interest in those areas. Although Comp Gov has a home that’s considered “core” I’d argue that Music Theory is the more “serious” class. I’d imagine you have a good estimation of your aptitude and prior knowledge for music theory. For comp gov everyone starts more or less on the same page, whereas for music theory it might be one of the widest variations (except foreign languages that include native speaking classmates).

There are even some colleges (e.g., Columbia College, NY), where music theory is part of the core curriculum. In that case, already having mastered the topic in high school can be helpful.

Check the college/major you want to study and see if the AP course gets you credit. I am checking the same for my DS23. If you get the credit, you can choose another course in its place or graduate early if you have enough credits(lot of relevant AP credits).
