My younger D, still in high school ,is taking AP Photography, but I’m now not even seeing what the real point was as there appears to be no exam. Can someone explain to me, who knows, if this class will have any relevance if she goes to CCC?
Wow, AP Photography? I would have loved to have taken that in high school.I guess it’s a new AP class. Anyway, there is no exam because of the nature of the class. In AP photography, like AP Art, you are being evaluated on the practice of the art, not the theory. The only way to evaluate someone’s photography skills is to see the person’s work, and you can’t do this with an exam like the rest of the classes.
Anyway, there is a lot of value in this class, especially if your daughter decides to go to community college. A photography class will fulfill one of the IGETC requirements, plus it’s a lot of fun! As a person that took several photography classes in high school, I would definitely recommend she take it.
I wonder if you turn in a portfolio for the AP credit? How else can they score you.
I can’t help really but will echo what @CollegeDropout1 said in that there in inherent value in just taking the class, and then it will fill an IGETC requirement.
I took it at my CCC last year and loved it. It was an easy A, but a great class.
“AP Photography” is a photography-focused portfolio which is submitted under the aegis of AP Studio Art 2-D. As mentioned upthread, there is no exam for any of the AP studio art tests (drawing, 2-D, 3-D). Rather the student assembles a portfolio which is sent in for grading.

I did not take the class per se, but I took an advanced photography class and submitted an AP portfolio, for which I scored a 5. Unfortunately for me, I will be attending a private university and most privates and art schools do not give credit for this test. Most publics, however, do.
@skieurope ah, thx. I did see that studio Art 2, but it wasn’t listed on the sheet of tests. I’ll tell my daughter to ask. She might as well try and submit something. Either way, it is of value just to have it, and I guess if she were to go straight to a 4-year (not likely) it adds some weight to her GPA. Thx everyone!
