Would taking AP Physics 1 as a freshman be a good idea? I took Algebra 2 as an 8th grade and got high As.
It depends upon how your school maps the science progression. If your school follows “physics first,” then AP Physics 1 might be the default option for 9th grade honors students. If the normal 9th grade course is bio or earth/planetary science, then that’swhat you should take.
Regardless, be aware that AP Physics 1 has close to the highest failure rate on the AP exam- ~60%. At freshman and sophomores in general seem to score lower than juniors and seniors on AP exams. No need to rush APs if you don’t have to.
How does it fit with your school’s progression?
This is something you need to discuss with the HS guidance counselor (or the person who is helping you set your freshman schedule in the HS). The answer will be different at different high schools.
