AP Physics 1 or Honor Physics?

I was wondering which one I should take, since my Chemistry Honors teacher recommended me for AP Physics 1, but I was curious which course is better to take, and which one I would benefit more from? Drop any comments/feedback you guys have, thanks!

AP physics 1 covers only half of the usual introductory physics topics (AP physics 2 covers the other half).

Non-AP high school physics courses vary, but they usually cover most or all of the topics at less depth than AP physics 1 and 2. If so, they would be a better match for the SAT subject test in physics and AP physics 1 alone.

Either one would be reasonable to take to prepare for taking physics in college. AP may be seen as more rigorous by your counselor and college admission readers.

I agree with @ucbalumnus as usual. It’s also important to know that more than half the students taking the AP Physics 1 exam end up with a 1 or a 2. Last year it was 54.6%. Only 6.7% ended up with a 5. If you’re a really good math student, go for it. If not, honors physics may be the way to go.

Find out a bit more about how these two classes are taught at your high school. Your Chemistry teacher is recommending AP Physics 1 for a reason. What is that reason?
