As of now, I am signed up to take AP Physics 1 next year. Currently I am taking precalc and honors physics. Would taking AP Physics 1 be a waste of my time and effort or would this class still be helpful. I really want to take it but my current physics teacher is insisting that it would be a waste of time. What is your opinion on what I should do?
What would you take in it’s place
@Gatortristan Probably some other type of science like anatomy or forensics. I would do AP Physics C but so many people signed up to take it this year that they made a new rule that you had to take calculus before taking it to eliminate some people. My teacher said that the AP physics 1 would basically be the same class I took this year but a little more advanced. I personally would like to take it because I doubt it would be that repetitious. What do you think?
I would say AP Physics 1 when compared to anatomy/forensics. AP Physics C would be awesome but if you can’t take it physics 1 will suffice.
It depends on what you want to study in college.
In general AP Physics 1 is a first physics class, so in that respect, I can see what your teacher means. However, it does cover topics in more depth and less breadth than an intro class, so in that respect, it’s not a waste.
If, however, you plan on a physics/math/engineering major, it is a total waste of time, as you would need to take calculus based physics in college, or AP Physics C in HS.
Maybe you can double up on science classes next year so you won’t be bored? Like you could take AP Physics 1 but since you already basically took that this year, you could take another class like AP Bio or Chem or even Environmental Science to keep yourself interested
