Does anyone have an idea/clue as to what the grading scale will be like?

FemmeFatale, I know how you feel. But you just have to understand that either:

a) some people are just really gifted when it comes to Physics
and/or
b) this is CC and a majority of posters are perfectionists who need to feel superior to other CCers and need reassurance from other CCers lest they face the harsh reality of their own shortcomings ;)

pants LOL, I think I've spoken for several of us smart CCers who don't find it necessary to "flaunt it" in front of others on CC.

For the scoring: They scale the MC and FR portions to both be out of 90 points.

MC:
Number correct - (1/4 * Number Wrong) * 1.2857 = Score out of 90
FR: 80 points total, multiply raw points * 1.1250 = Score out of 90

The curve varies from year to year... For the 2004 Exam:
115-180 = 5
91-114 = 4
63-90 = 3
49-62 = 2
0-48 = 1

For one of the earlier tests (I believe it may have been 1998, but it has no date on it)
106-180 = 5
83-105 = 4
54 - 82 = 3
40-53 = 2
0 - 39 = 1

After doing the math out, it seems reasonable to get 35 out of 70 on the MC and then 50 out of 80 points on the FR and still pull off a low 4. Do the math accordingly with what you feel you were stronger on.

Hey ubercollege, that's what I thought. I figured they had to both be out of 90 so I just weighted the max raw scores on both sections accordingly. Thanks for posting that (now I know my guesses are at least sound).

Ok, I did 61 of the MC (I omitted 9 throughout). Of the 61, I'm pretty sure I got about 41 right. So my MC raw score would be 41 - (.25 * 20). My weigted MC score is 45.2852/90 (or 51 %).

On the FR, (and this is totally ball-parked), I'm assuming a weighted FR score of 42.75/90 (or 47.5%).

So, haha 45.2852 + 42.75 = 88.0352, which is somewhere in the neighborhood of a high 3 or a low 4. Hey not bad!

L;)L sorry to drag you all through the whole scoring process. I'm just excited to see that there's HOPE for a 4!!

Btw Cali45, I invite you to read my post about CCers. Maybe it'll make you feel better about the FRQs, the AP test in general, or just give you a slightly changed outlook on our fellow CC chatters. I'll post it below:

-Jon :D

----- Hopefully someone agrees w/ me. Do you, cali45? -----

Ahhh MC was a breeze for me... but the Free response was like ***FF. #1 was easy, I had no time for #2 so i rushed it cuz i went back to it at the end cuz planning the experiment is usually easy so i screwed that kinda up, #3 was OK i probably missed the last 2 parts of it, #4 was easy until the last 2 parts again, #5 was OK I screwed up the first time through so i had to redo it all (real time drainer) and #6 I forgot the name for the last part so i just missed that... Hopefully 2/3 on the Free response about and at least 75% on the MC will get me a 5!

OMG OMG OMG, i cannot post enough replies stressing on how much I DESPISE the ap physics b free responses! that section was a female dog......>.<

APDoolittle - Thanks for your post, and I do agree.
(a) My dad's favorite subject is physics, and I just don't seem to have inherited his physics genes. =P
(b) I realize that the posters you speak of are competitive academically. I guess that the postings of their happiness come with the competitiveness. I can sort of relate since sometimes I feel an urge to express my happiness of doing well on a test.

Jimmy2588 - You're not alone. Wow, that was cheesy... =P

APDoolittle -
Haha, I meant to refer to people I physically took the test with. I probably should have been more clear, but you know how that stress gets to your brain. I'm sure everyone here is highly competative. I don't doubt that at all. It's a lot more frustrating when it's someone you know and not just some faceless nane online.

Average/Total percentage : 58.7%
Percentage to get a 4 in 2004: 50.6%
Percentage to get a 5 in 2004: 63.9%

What do you guys think? Will I get a 5? (Those are very rough estimates. I think I could possibly have done a lot better (or a lot worse) on the MCQs but you never know with the AP.)
