I am currently taking Honors Physics and Honors Precalc. Next year I am definitely taking AP Calc AB and some type of AP Physics. I would really like to take AP Physics C: Mechanics and E&C (2 period Class) because I have the teacher that teaches that class for honors this year. The one drawback is that AP Physics C uses calc and I haven't taken it yet. My school also offers AP Physics Mechanics as a 1 period class and AP Physics 1+2 as a 2 period class. Do you think I should should take AP Physics C Mech&E&M or AP Physics 1/2 since that only uses algebra and trig? The only requirement for AP Physics C is to be enrolled in AP Calc AB concurrently although most of the people in that class take BC with it. Which class should I take and how much calc is actually used in C? Thanks for any help

I’m taking Calc BC and Physics C Mechanics concurrently. Our teacher made us do a summer assignment on Calc, but otherwise not too much Calc work. He shows us easy proofs which uses very easy Calculus.

I would suggest going for Calc BC instead of AB, but either way, you should be able to do it if you try. Just make sure to get a headstart on Calc during the summer.

AP Physics C only requires concurrent enrollment in calculus (AB or BC does not matter), The calculus topics in mechanics are not that difficult

Thanks woandering and I would skip straight to BC but the teacher for AB at my school is supposedly the best teacher at our school and the BC is supposedly the worst because she is in her early 70s and extremely mean and unclear

There’s not much to worry about. I also took Calc AB and Physics C: mechanics (only physics AP offered at my HS). From what I noticed, mechanics does use some calculus, but not beyond basic calculus. In some cases, the physics class can double as a mini calc lesson, as it did for myself. Don’t worry about it too much.

thanks @NotYetEngineer and @skieurope . I will probably take it. The teacher who teaches it is my physics teacher now and said he thinks i can handle it. Im just second guessing myself since ap physics c at my school is known as THE hardest AP class. I also have a very smart class. I have a 3.89 gpa and a 4.8 weighted gpa and am 116/512 for my class rank. The kids in this class are generally the smartest kids at our school and within the top 10% of our class but i think ill take the challenge. thanks for the help!
