Im a junior in highschool and im going to schedule with my guidance counselor tomorrow, but I Do not know which class i should take, Ap lit or Ap physics..
This is what i am going to take next year: Ap calc, Ap chem, maybe hon spanish 4, anatomy & physiology 1, and the rest electives.
I took 4 ap this year (comp, bio, stats, u.s. history) and i do not want to take 4 aps again next year. I want to enter the medical field, but im not sure if i should take Ap physics b/c it seems very hard (and i might get a B), but i know that i will need to take physics to pass the MCAT since there is some physics in it and getting familiar with it in high school will help in college. But i do know that i will be able to do well in Ap literature (and get an A) since i know i am very good in english. I want to take AP Literature so i can get out of the english courses in college...which class do u suggest?... i do not want to take both.. at all

Take AP Physics. It is good to take as many sciences as you can. Also, depending on what colleges you are looking at, many do not accept AP Lit as credit or for placement.

Personally, I would just take them both (I am taking Physics B / Eng. Lit) as colleges would like to see that you are taking the most rigorous course load.

At my school, most people take the AP English Lit test even though we don’t offer the class and people do very well. So it would probably be possible for you to still take the lit test without the class if you wanted - I’d say it would be much harder to do the same with physics.

i am taking a very rigorous courseload right now. 4 ap’s and then 3 aps in senior year. I need to know which class (physics or lit) based on other’s experiences

One concern; you don’t have an English class right now. If not taking AP lit means not having an English class, then you should definitely take AP lit, because most colleges will require, or at least strongly encourage, 4 years of English in high school.

Also, be wary:

Be wary of saying that on CC. People can and will bash you for calling your schedule rigorous, yet not having 8+ APs per year. :p

I would take Literature if I were you. I suppose it depends on where it is taught, but based on personal experience and what I’ve seen on CC, the people who get As in that class are either naturally great at math and science or their class is way too easy and they probably won’t do well on the exam. Colleges like science classes, especially if you want to go into a humanities major because it shows that you’re well rounded, but Physics is not the class to take for that. It’s usually very difficult, even if you put a lot of time and effort into studying, and colleges would rather see AP Bio or Chem…

I completely agree with benellis’ statement.

thanks a lot guys

Take Literature! It’s seriously the best class on my schedule right now. Physics is boring at such an early stage; you never really get to the interesting stuff until later in your college years. Literature is useful and fun but challenging at the same time, even the most math/science intensive people I talk to tell me AP Lit was undoubtedly one of their favorite AP’s.

Chem and Physics together would be pretty brutal. Some people can handle, but if you’re worried about having a heavy courseload with just 4 APs, I wouldn’t seriously consider it. Take an easy class like Lit and have an enjoyable senior year.

I took a fairly intense senior year (6 APs and an higher-level math course), and I regret having done so now. It’s quite stressful at times.

COMPLETELY AGREE with Tappmann.
I am taking 5 APs right now (senior year) – plus a class to be a certified nursing assitant and french 4, but that’s besides the point. I am so regretting taking all of these AP classes this year. Take AP Lit. I’m taking it and it is much better than physics (i took physics for the first grading period and then switched out to take ap bio instead<— verrrrryyy bad choice on my part)
Have fun senior year. Don’t take physics.

My natural reaction is to say physics because of your careers interests but you need to keep your grades up senior year (and account for the inevitable second-semester senioritis). Give yourself the break. And you need an English class senior year, might as well make it AP since you already have your science taken care of.
