hey guys...anyone know the ap policy at Villanova? or at least a link for it? I can't seem to find it anywhere and I was hoping I would be able to get credit for the AP European History Test (didn't take yet) and AP US HIstory Test (4 on the test)...my major is biology, which is why I want a credit for these classes (won't ever be wanting to see them again).

Just search AP credit at the top right of their website and one of the links has a chart. You can definitely get credit for both with a 4 or a 5. I’m the opposite, if I can pull a 4 on calc, stat, and enviro, I think I’m good for math and science, since I’m political science.

They take credit for scores of 4 or 5, in most cases. In very rare cases, they take 3s for creidt and offer “placement” for some scores of 3 (i.e. you get put into a harder class—not advisable if you are a Bio major! Just some advice from a fellow Bio major haha… You want to free up as much time as you can for your science classes and not take unnecessary harder classes that leave you with even more work than the large workload that you already have)

It’s the website—in the “Enichridon”— “the undergraduate student handbook”. Try searching those 2 terms.

lrnprcll

wait a minute, it’s better not to be in a higher bio class? what’d you get on the AP?

Sorry, I meant to clarify this: For your “core”, if you get a 3 on AP English, and you get “placed into” a harder CORE ENGLISH class(as in, you still have to take the course just in a harder section), I’d personally opt for the easier core…simply b/c the science courses with their labs are challenging enough and time consuming enough that you really should opt to have easier core courses (IMO) unless you really want to very much so challenge yourself.

That is different than placing OUT of a class if you get a 4 or 5. If you get a 4 or 5 and get credit for the course (the first scenario, a 3 does NOT get you “credit” for a course, only placement into a HARDER section–you still HAVE to take the course), don’t take it unless you feel like it would help you. If you place out of General Biology and feel confident that you mastered all of the material, I’d recommend going a higher level IF YOU FEEL READY.

If you don’t feel ready to skip Gen Bio and go right into the upper level Biology courses, you can either a. take General Bio for a whole year or b. Take gen Bio I for 1st semester (to review and ease into college life) and start taking your upper levels 2nd semester- i know a few ppl who did this

IF you are ready, just seriously be happy you placed out of General Biology ,as it is very time consuming!

I hope that cleared it up.

Basically here is my advice:

If you get 4 or 5: TAKE THE CREDIT FOR IT AND BE HAPPY TO BE OUT OF A CORE! (only exception: if you want to review a specific science course again)

If you get a 3: DONT take the “placement” into the harder section of the course. Not worth it.

question… im going to be a freshman engineering major… will i be able to use credit on an ap stat or ap lit test?? i kno i can place out of calc and chem with 4s or 5s… but willl a 4 or 5 on the stat or lit test get me out of anything??

I don’t know—not an engineering major. Just go to the website and look to see if its a required class for your major. If stats or english isn’t required for your major, then getting a 4 or a 5 on the AP test isn’t going to matter at all in terms of placing out of classes for your major. I’m almost positive Stats is not required for engineers— I know they take Calc I, Calc II, and Diff. Eq.

The only thing is- if you need to take electives, they might count towards those- not sure. But, hey, when you are a senior, sometimes, it’s fun and refreshing to take a course outside your major—esp. a structured cirriculum like engineering. I’d recommend not using the AP credit to fill an elective…and I would just recommend for you to take a class that genuinely interests you. But to each their own! :)

When you apply for classes on NOVASIS (you can do this right now if you’ve already sent in your deposit) you are given the opportunity to apply for AP credit. I don’t know how long it takes for them to let you know if you recieved credit, but since the deadline for choosing classes is 1 June, I’d assume you’ll find out when we go for orientation.

what if you took an ap class your senior year??? scores come back in June, anyone know how that works?

One thing i’m hazy on.

Does an AP exam place you out AND give you credit, or just place you out, allowing you to go into higher level courses?

If its only the second part, my ap’s were just for show. =[
