Anyone else have summer assignments?

Doing well on this test is seriously easy don’t sweat it.

I literally just crammed using quizlet and old packets the night before and the morning before the test and I got a 4 lol. I probably studied for about 3 hours total. Like if you pay attention at all during class you’re guaranteed at least a 4. The entire curriculum doesn’t require any deeper thought or critical thinking it’s literally just vocab terms lol.

I’m self studying it this year. I have 9 total AP’s (4 self studied) and so I was hoping to do most of my studying over summer. There is a class at my school (just couldnt fit it into my schedule) so I was going to talk to the teacher and see if I could attend weekend reviews, join her class webpage ect. I have the Barrons and REA Crash Course book plus I watch the youtube Crash Course videos.
Any tips? Has anyone else self studied??

fyi new psych students - essays are super easy. it gives you a real-life scenario and a list of vocab words and then you have to 1. define each word and then apply it to the scenario.

e.g.

Q todd often falls asleep in class. explain how the following applies to the scenario:
insomnia
stimulant
circadian rhythm
A insomnia is a sleeping disorder that causes people to find difficulty in falling asleep at night. if todd has insomnia, his sleep loss would explain his exhaustion in class.
a stimulant is a drug that arouses a person’s senses, causing them to be more alert. todd probably did not take coffee, a stimulant, as evident by his lack of alertness.
the circadian rhythm is an internal clock in one’s body that can control their sleep cycle. because he is falling asleep in class during the day, todd’s circadian rhythm obviously needs to be altered so that he is alert at day and asleep at night.

^of course, it won’t just be 3 vocab words - it’ll probably be around 8. but you get the idea. just define and then apply.

however, i’m mentioning this because on this year’s exam, instead of 8 vocab words one essay asked us 7 vocab words and draw a graph that corresponded with an experiment?? that was something totally unexpected because everybody in our school’s psych classes was never taught that the essay would ask for anything other than vocab. it was fine to pull off though. i was a mediocre student all year, crammed everything in one night (all nighter the night before the exam…hahahaha… never doing that again), and was confident that i got a 5. you can do it! you too, self-studiers. personally, i would suggest buying the myer’s textbook (any edition) to study rather than a review book, because the author uses many real-life examples that are common on the mc questions of the exam so it’d be easier to connect the ideas. princeton review covers all the material, though! good luck.

@boltaspirations Thank you so much! Now I have a little more confidence even though the test is in a year!

Not taking the actual class, but figured I would take the exam since I’m taking a DE psych class. I’m just going to self study the rest of the topics.

Hi everyone, I’m taking this class as a senior. I’m really excited for it!

I’m self-studying AP psych, and I’ve already skimmed through the Princeton Review prep book. Psych definitely looks like it will be interesting.

@leslieknope4 You Are LITERALLY the smartest person on this thread.

Hello I am self-studying AP Psych and I am going to be a freshman in high school in fall. Do you guys have any suggestions or tips?

Take the actual class instead

@TotallyTrudy my high school doesn’t offer it in school but my counselor suggested that I take the course after I wrote a paper in science. He provided me with some resources and a copy of the Myers Psychology textbook

Maybe you could take it online. Colleges are sometimes wary when students self study since you don’t have the rigors of the actual class.

@TotallyTrudy that’s actually a good idea. i will look into it. Thanks!

Has anyone found any free online classes to take? If there aren’t any free online classes, I’'m just going to self-study it because I enjoy Psychology anyway.

Taking the class this year too! Sounds really interesting though I absolutely hate vocab (rote-memorization)

I’m also planning on taking AP Psych (since my school only offers regular Psych for 11th and 12th graders). I’m only Soph right now and going to ask my guidance counselor if I can take the test (by self-studying). So far I read that you don’t have to use the textbook and rely on Barron’s (or some type of good review book) and some quizzes. May I ask what is the process for examinations that your school doesn’t offer?

I’m taking the class this year as well. Pretty excited for it

I’m taking Ap Psych next year too (and APWH- sophomore)! It is probably going to be one of the more interesting classes in my schedule so I’m looking forward to it. As a question to anyone who has taken the class before, how did you go about studying for the exam? How far in advance did you start studying? I’ve heard the test is pretty easy so I really want to get a 5.

I’ve taken AP Psychology in my Freshmen year and I self studied it in less than 2 months…
All I did was listen to the online course, and a few online quiz (of course with my handy dandy barron) and I got a 4… I’m taking the exam again this year because I want to get a 5, since its such an easy course…
of course its not great doing some last minute cramming, and most people break down when its the week before the exam… So I’d say start early, but don’t stress out on it like crazy because its definitely NOT the hardest AP (I think its one of the easiest actually)
GOOD LUCK!!
